Two suspected Kashmiri men found begging in UP’s Bareilly, detained

Bareilly (UP), Dec 28: Uttar Pradesh Police have detained two suspected Kashmiri men, allegedly after villagers complained about their suspicious activities in Bareilly district, officials said on Sunday.

The incident came to light on Saturday morning when villagers complained, on the police’s X handle, about two Kashmiri men who allegedly were found begging at houses in Dhimri village in the Ahladpur area, police said.

Izzatnagar police launched a search after suspecting their language and manner of speaking, they said.

The suspects attempted to evade police by mingling with the crowd and offering namaz. However, after villagers spotted them again, police apprehended them, Izzatnagar Station House Officer (SHO) Bijendra Singh said.

During questioning, the men identified themselves as Shaukat Ali and Sajjad, both residents of Poonch district in Jammu and Kashmir, he said.

The duo told interrogators that they had been staying in a local mosque and had arrived in the city on December 10 and had been staying in the Dhimri village since then, police said.

The detainee also claimed that they were poor and survived by begging, police said, adding that no significant information has emerged so far.

Intelligence agencies are also interrogating them, police said, adding that, prima facie, their activities appeared suspicious.

Soon after their detention, the Local Intelligence Unit (LIU) also joined the probe, the SHO said.

The photographs and Aadhaar details of the two men have been sent to Jammu and Kashmir Police for verification, the SHO said.

Further questioning is underway, officials said.

Not allowing peaceful protest undemocratic, heavens would not fall if students were heard: G H Mir

Srinagar, Dec 28: Jammu and Kashmir Apni Party (JKAP) Senior Vice President Ghulam Hassan Mir on Sunday criticized the house arrest of Srinagar MP Agha Ruhullah, who was scheduled to join a peaceful protest on the reservation issue earlier today.

Mir said stopping students and political leaders from holding a sit-in protest is “against the spirit of democracy” and weakens people’s trust in the system.

He said that peaceful protest is not a threat, but a democratic right.

“Not allowing a sit-in protest by students and some leaders is undemocratic. It is the beauty of democracy that anybody can express their views through peaceful means,” Mir said.

Mir also said the government should have allowed the protest, especially when the youth were raising concerns peacefully.

“The government should have allowed the protest. Heavens would not fall,” he added.

Without naming any party, Mir said that silencing voices through force or restrictions sends a wrong message at a time when youth need to feel included in decision-making.

“Suffocating voices through the barrel is totally uncalled for,” he further said.

Mir said reservation is a sensitive public issue and demands open talks, not curbs. He urged authorities to create space for dialogue so that youth feel heard, not pushed to frustration.

Mir said democracy grows stronger when dissent is peaceful and people are allowed to speak. “Peaceful expression makes democracy beautiful, not weak. Respecting voices strengthens India-Kashmir relations, not breaks them,” Mir also said. (KNS)

Pakistan’s FM confirms India’s strikes on Nur Khan Air Base in May, says damaged installations, injured personnel

Pakistan’s FM confirms India’s strikes on Nur Khan Air Base in May, says damaged installations, injured personnel

Islamabad, Dec 28: The Pakistani government has once again found itself embarrassed on the world stage, now acknowledging the impact of India’s strategic and precision strikes on their military installation during the escalation in May, following Operation Sindoor, which came in retaliation for the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack, which killed 26 civilians.

This time around, the embarrassment came from Pakistan’s Foreign Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, who, during the year-end press briefing on Saturday, confirmed that India had targeted its Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi’s Chakala, damaging their military installation as well as injuring personnel posted there.

Speaking at the briefing, Dar stated that India had sent multiple drones over Pakistani territory within 36 hours, and one drone damaged the military installation, highlighting the scale and precision of the operation.

“They (India) send drones towards Pakistan. In 36 hours, at least 80 drones were sent… We were able to intercept 79 drones out of 80, and only one drone damaged a military installation and personnel were also injured in the attack,” the Foreign Minister claimed.

He further detailed the sequence of events, noting that Pakistan’s civil and military leadership, led by Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, held a meeting on the night of May 9 and “authorised” certain decisions in response to the evolving situation.

The Foreign Minister further stated that India “made the mistake” of attacking the Nur Khan Air Base in the early hours of May 10, further acknowledging the damage.

Dar, with this remark, admitted to India’s strategic actions taken up by its armed forces on Pakistan’s military installations in May, which came after Operation Sindoor that targeted nine terror camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir (PoJK).

The Pakistan Air Force Base Nur Khan in Chaklala suffered significant damage in India’s precision strikes under Operation Sindoor in May.

The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in the early hours of May 7, as a retaliatory response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir.

Following India’s operation, the conflict between India and Pakistan deepened, which resulted in increased cross-border shelling from Pakistan and retaliatory action from the Indian Armed Forces.
A surprising sequence of events unfolded as Pakistan’s Director General of Military Operations (DGMO) proposed a ceasefire to India’s DGMO, which was accepted.

Pakistan’s DGMO called India’s DGMO to propose a ceasefire, which India accepted.
The contact from the Pakistani side was also confirmed by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, who noted that the two sides agreed to halt all military operations — on land, at sea, and in the air.

Satellite images captured by Maxar Technologies on May 13 revealed significant damage to multiple air bases in Pakistan, including Nur Khan Air Base.

Images show damage to four Pakistani air bases: Nur Khan Air Base in Rawalpindi, PAF Base Mushaf in Sargodha, Bholari Air Base, and PAF Base Shahbaz in Jacobabad.

Satellite images taken on April 25, 2025, and May 10, 2025, showed damage to airbase facilities, confirming strikes on Nur Khan Air Base.

This is not the first time that a top Pakistani official has admitted to India’s strikes on Nur Khan Air Base.

In May, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif admitted that India’s ballistic missiles hit Nur Khan Airbase and other sites on May 10, a rare acknowledgement that contradicts Pakistan’s usual stance of denial when it comes to Indian military action.

While addressing a ceremony held at the Pakistan Monument on May 16, Sharif said, “At around 2:30 am on May 10, General Syed Asim Munir called me on a secure line and informed me that India’s ballistic missiles had hit Nur Khan Airbase and other areas. Our Air Force used homegrown technology to save our country, and they even used modern gadgets and technology on Chinese jets,” Geo News reported.

“This time, we have introduced several new measures. As you saw, Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor also visited the area, reviewed the security scenario and issued important directions related to safety and crowd management,” he said.

He said that the use of technology for crowd management and pilgrimage-related security, which began last year, has significantly strengthened overall arrangements.

EOW files chargesheet in large scale fake job scam

Srinagar, Dec 28: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir has filed a comprehensive chargesheet before the Hon’ble Court of City Judge (Sub Registrar) Srinagar, in connection with FIR No. 49/2022, registered under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 RPC, pertaining to a large-scale job fraud.

The case stems from a written complaint wherein many residents of Tangmarg area alleged that they were duped by Reyaz Ahmad Taploo, S/o Mohammad Sidiq Taploo, R/o Anchaar Dagapora, Soura, Srinagar. The accused allegedly lured innocent job seekers by falsely promising employment as security guards in reputed hospitals and banks. Under this false pretext, he reportedly collected huge sums of money amounting to several lakhs of rupees from the victims. To further legitimize the fraud, the accused allegedly issued fake appointment orders and uniform items, thereby misleading the victims into believing that the employment offers were genuine.
Upon receipt of the complaint, the Crime Branch Kashmir (now Economic Offences Wing) initiated a thorough and meticulous investigation. During which, it was prima facie established that the accused was operating a fake NGO under the name and style of “SAI NGO Consultancy.” Using this fictitious entity as a front, the accused systematically cheated unemployed youth by issuing forged appointment letters and false assurances of employment. The investigation conclusively revealed that the accused indulged in deliberate acts of cheating, forgery, and use of forged documents as genuine, thereby committing serious economic offences and exploiting vulnerable job seekers. After completing all legal formalities and gathering sufficient evidence, the Economic Offences Wing has formally submitted the chargesheet before the competent court for judicial scrutiny and trial.

The Economic Offences Wing reiterates its commitment to curbing employment-related frauds and urges the public to remain vigilant against fraudulent job offers and to verify the authenticity of recruiting agencies before making any financial commitments.
