ED raids Al Falah University, linked persons in Delhi Red Fort blast case

New Delhi, Nov 18: The Enforcement Directorate on Tuesday launched searches against the Al Falah University of Faridabad and its promoters and linked persons as part of its investigation related to the Red Fort area terrorist blast case, sources said.

Teams of the federal probe agency have been searching multiple locations in the Delhi-NCR since early morning, sources said.

It is understood that the ED is taking action under the anti-money laundering law following cognisance of the first information reports filed by the NIA and the Delhi Police in the case. The agency is investigating finances and purported terror financing links in the matter.

Sources said the searches began around 5 am, and the trustees of the University are also being raided.

Till now, the NIA has arrested two persons, allegedly close aides of “suicide bomber” Dr Umar Nabi.

The Al Falah varsity is located in the Dhouj area of Faridabad district in Haryana near Delhi, and it is a medical college-cum-hospital.

US lawmakers introduce bipartisan resolution to defend India ties

US lawmakers introduce bipartisan resolution to defend India ties

Washington, Nov 18: US Representatives Ami Bera and Joe Wilson on Monday introduced a bipartisan resolution reaffirming the strategic value of the India-US partnership and its role in promoting stability and shared democratic priorities.

The resolution received strong bipartisan support with 24 original cosponsors, including members such as Sydney Kamlager-Dove, Rich McCormick, Deborah Ross, Rob Wittman, Suhas Subramanyam and Jay Obernolte.

The resolution emphasised the shared fight against terrorism, calling for “continued cooperation on counterterrorism, including the swift prosecution of the perpetrators of the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.”

It also mentioned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, which killed 26 people, saying that the attack was “claimed by The Resistance Front (a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba), highlighting the persistent threat of cross-border and proxy terrorism in South Asia.”

Lawmakers stressed that support for deepening ties with India has been a constant across party lines and presidential transitions.

“For more than three decades, it has been the policy of the United States under administrations of Presidents Clinton, Bush, Obama, Trump, and Biden to strengthen the strategic partnership with India, recognising its importance to regional stability, democratic governance, economic growth, and shared regional priorities,” the resolution said.

They noted that the partnership has become central to Washington’s Indo-Pacific strategy and focused on the importance of the Quad – an informal grouping of four democracies of India, the United States, Japan and Australia.

The resolution “encourages the United States and India to continue and expand cooperation for a free, open, and resilient Indo-Pacific, including through the Quad” and welcomed India’s “participation in economic initiatives, including through bilateral and multilateral forums, its participation in the Quad, and other venues of cooperation.”

The measure also called for continued collaboration on issues such as technology, energy security and people-to-people ties.

The resolution comes weeks after five Congress members wrote a letter to President Donald Trump, urging him to reconsider his September 19th proclamation on H-1B visas due to its “potentially negative impacts” on the India-US relationship.

“Although 75% of current H-1B visa recipients come from India, the program still needs to be enhanced and increased rather than limited to a select amount of people or corporations that can pay exorbitant amounts of money to get a visa,” the letter said.

The letter was co-signed by Congressmen Jimmy Panetta, Ami Bera, Salud Carbajal, Derek Tran and Congresswoman Julie Johnson.

Jammu, Nov 17: The striped hyenas, three in number, will be the new addition in Jambu Zoo.

These bone-crushing animals are being brought from Nahargarh Biological Park, Jaipur in exchange of two Himalayan Black Bears as per the ‘Animal collection plan’ of the Jambu Zoo approved by the Central Zoo Authority.

The hyena will reach Jammu on November 18 and will be open for the public from November 20, 2025.

The free ranging Striped Hyena is the only native hyena species in India, found in fragmented populations across dry and semi-arid regions, including states like Rajasthan, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, parts of the Deccan Plateau and in captivity in various zoos of the country.

The striped hyena has a fairly massive body and its hind legs are significantly shorter than the forelimbs, thus causing the back to slope downwards. The striped hyena is a primarily nocturnal animal, typically lives alone or in pairs, though groups of up to seven animals are known.

Dr Rafi Ahmed Jan honoured with prestigious fellowship at NAPCON

Jaipur, Nov 17: In a momentous achievement for the medical fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir, Dr Rafi Ahmed Jan has become the first doctor from the region to receive the esteemed Fellowship of the Indian Society of Chest Physicians.

The accolade was conferred upon him at this year’s National Conference on Pulmonary Diseases (NAPCON) held in Jaipur.

This historic recognition places both Dr Jan and the Department of Respiratory Medicine at Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, prominently on the national and global map of respiratory care.

With this feat, Dr Jan has not only elevated his own stature but also propelled his institution to the forefront of cutting-edge pulmonary medicine in India.

Known for his pioneering work, Dr Jan had already etched his name in medical history last year when he became Kashmir’s first Fellow of the Indian Association for Bronchology (IAB), a notable accomplishment in the growing field of interventional pulmonology.

Interventional pulmonology, a subspecialty that uses minimally invasive techniques to diagnose and treat lung and chest disorders, remains a rare expertise in South Asia.

Dr Jan’s command over this domain spans a wide array of advanced procedures from flexible and rigid bronchoscopy to airway stenting, pleural interventions, and complex bronchial therapies.

His clinical proficiency is matched only by his dedication to teaching, research, and medical innovation.

Currently serving as Professor of Respiratory Medicine at GMC Anantnag, Dr Jan has spent over two decades building a legacy of excellence in pulmonary health.

He previously held the position of Head of the Department of Internal and Pulmonary Medicine at SKIMS, Soura, a premier medical institute of the region.

A respected clinician-scholar, Dr Jan is an MD, FCCP, and FACP, whose contributions extend beyond the clinic.

His research has been published widely, and he has spearheaded major CME initiatives, symposia, and academic forums.

His leadership in forming and strengthening pulmonary societies in the region is well documented, as is his role in mentoring a generation of pulmonologists across North India.

Dr Jan’s latest recognition at NAPCON comes with a ripple effect that signals the rise of GMC Anantnag as a hub of excellence in respiratory care.

Under his stewardship, the institution is rapidly gaining national and international attention for its clinical standards, research output, and innovation in patient care.

“This is not just a personal milestone,” Dr Jan said after receiving the fellowship. “It represents a collective achievement for GMC Anantnag, Kashmir’s healthcare community, and all those committed to advancing pulmonary medicine in regional settings.”

In a region often beset by environmental and respiratory health challenges, Dr Jan’s contributions offer a beacon of progress and promise.
