ED attaches over 40 properties of Reliance Anil Ambani Group worth over Rs 3,000 crore

Mumbai, Nov 03: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has provisionally attached properties worth about Rs 3,084 crore linked to entities of the Reliance Anil Ambani Group over alleged diversion and laundering of public funds.

The attached assets include the residence at Pali Hill, Bandra (West), Mumbai, the Reliance Centre property in New Delhi, and multiple assets across Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Mumbai, Pune, Thane, Hyderabad, Chennai (including Kancheepuram) and East Godavari.

These assets include office premises, residential units and land parcels. The aggregate attached value across the four orders is approximately Rs 3,084 crore.

The orders were issued on October 31, 2025 under Section 5(1) of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA).

The case concerns the diversion and laundering of public funds raised by Reliance Home Finance Ltd. (RHFL) and Reliance Commercial Finance Ltd. (RCFL).

During 2017–2019, Yes Bank invested Rs 2,965 crore in RHFL instruments and Rs 2,045 crore in RCFL instruments.

These turned into nonperforming investments by December 2019, with Rs 1,353.50 crore then outstanding for RHFL and Rs 1,984 crore for RCFL.

An ED investigation found that direct investment by the erstwhile Reliance Nippon Mutual Fund into Anil Ambani Group financial companies was not legally possible due to SEBI’s mutual fund conflict of interest framework.

In violation of these guidelines the money invested by general public in the mutual fund was routed indirectly through Yes Bank exposures, which ultimately landed with Anil Ambani Group companies.

The probe further shows funds were routed indirectly through Yes Bank’s exposures to RHFL and RCFL, while RHFL and RCFL extended loans to entities linked to the Reliance Anil Ambani group.

Meanwhile, ED has also intensified probe in Reliance Communications Ltd. (RCOM) and related companies loan fraud scam.

ED has found that these companies diverted over Rs 13,600 crore used in evergreening loans, over Rs 12,600 crore was diverted to connected parties and over Rs 1,800 crore was invested in FDs/MFs etc., which was substantially liquidated for rerouting to group entities.

Huge misuse of bill discounting for the purpose of funneling funds to connected parties has also been detected by ED.

Last week, investigative news portal Cobrapost alleged that the Reliance Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group has indulged in “a massive banking fraud amounting to more than Rs. 28,874 crore” since 2006 with impunity. The Cobrapost report alleges that the fraud involves siphoning off funds that were raised through bank loans, IPOs and bonds by listed ADA Group companies.

The Reliance Group dismissed the Cobrapost report as “a malicious, baseless, and motivated campaign” being orchestrated by the news platform at the behest of the group’s corporate rivals.

Powerful earthquake hits Afghanistan killing 7, over 100 injured

Kabul, Nov 03: A powerful earthquake with a magnitude of 6.3 jolted northern Afghanistan early on Monday morning, causing at least seven people dead and over 100 injured, according to media reports.

The US Geological Survey (USGS) issued an orange alert through its PAGER system—an automated tool that assesses the potential impact of earthquakes—warning that “significant casualties are likely and the disaster is potentially widespread.”

The quake struck at a depth of 28 km (17.4 miles) near Mazar-e Sharif, a city of about 523,000 people, according to the USGS.

Videos showing rescue operations to free people trapped under rubble, along with images of collapsed buildings and scattered debris, circulated widely on the social media platform X.

Earlier on September 23, a 4.9-magnitude earthquake had struck southeastern Afghanistan, according to the GFZ German Research Centre for Geosciences. The quake’s epicentre was pinpointed at a shallow depth of 10 km, with coordinates at 34.48 degrees north latitude and 70.71 degrees east longitude.

Since taking power in 2021, the Taliban government has faced several devastating earthquakes, including one in 2023 in the western Herat region near the Iranian border that killed over 1,500 people and destroyed more than 63,000 homes.

Another major quake—a shallow magnitude 6 tremor—struck the country’s east on August 31 this year, killing more than 2,200 people, making it the deadliest in recent Afghan history.

Afghanistan lies along the collision zone between the Eurasian and Indian tectonic plates, with additional influence from the Arabian plate to the south—making it one of the most seismically active regions in the world.

The country is simultaneously grappling with multiple crises after decades of war, including widespread poverty, severe drought, and the forced return of millions of Afghans from Pakistan and Iran.

According to seismologist Brian Baptie of the British Geological Survey, northeastern Afghanistan has experienced 12 earthquakes above magnitude 7 since 1900. Studies further show that more than 355 quakes exceeding magnitude 5.0 have occurred across the country since 1990.

Eastern and northeastern Afghanistan—particularly areas bordering Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and Pakistan—remain the most earthquake-prone regions.

India lifts Women’s World Cup, defeat South Africa in final

Navi Mumbai, Nov 2: A consolidated team effort led India to their maiden Women’s World Cup title, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final at DY Patil Stadium here on Sunday night.

South Africa captain Laura Wolvaardt’s dismissal in the 42nd over, followed by a dismissal of Chloe Tryon (9) in the same over, sealed the fate of the match as the visitors were eight down with 78 needed off 48 balls.

Nadine de Klerk’s late resistance could not steer the side over the line as India bundled out the Proteas for 246 in 45.3 overs to script history in front of passionate home spectators.

For India, Deepti Sharma led the attack with figures of 5 for 39, while Shafali Verma chipped in with two crucial wickets.

Shafali Verma made a crucial impact with the ball in the summit clash, striking twice in quick succession to turn the game in India’s favour. She dismissed Sune Luus in her very first over and then removed the dangerous Marizanne Kapp, tightening India’s grip on the contest before Sinalo Jafta fell as the fifth wicket.

India’s breakthrough came earlier when Tazmin Brits was run out by a sharp direct hit from Amanjot Kaur at the non-striker’s end. Brits and Laura Wolvaardt had put together a brisk fifty-run opening stand during the powerplay, giving South Africa a solid start to their chase.

Sree Charani made an instant impact too, trapping Anneke Bosch LBW in her opening over. Despite the quick setbacks, Wolvaardt continued her excellent form, notching up her 39th ODI fifty and, with Luus, steering South Africa past 100 to keep their hopes alive.

But Kaur’s move to bring Verma into the attack proved decisive – the young allrounder’s twin strikes shifted the momentum squarely back in India’s favour.

Srinagar–Jammu NH open for traffic

Srinagar–Jammu NH open for traffic

Ramban, Nov 2: The Srinagar–Jammu National Highway (NH-44) remained open for two-way traffic of passenger light and medium vehicles on Sunday.

However, only one-way movement of heavy vehicles was allowed towards Jammu.

Traffic authorities said that NH-44 would remain open on Monday as well, permitting two-way movement of light and medium vehicles and one-way movement of heavy vehicles towards Kashmir.

Earlier in the day, traffic officials monitoring the regulation of vehicular movement in Ramban informed that hundreds of light and medium vehicles plied on both sides between Jammu and Srinagar at a slow pace. Vehicles carrying official records from Kashmir to Jammu, as part of the bi-annual move of offices, also crossed safely during the day.

Officials said that traffic movement remained slow due to single-lane stretches at Balli Nullah, Dewal, between Nashri–Dalwass and between Maroog and Kishtwari Pattar. The breakdown of a few heavy vehicles and on-foot movement of nomadic families with their livestock towards Jammu also contributed to congestion.

Meanwhile, traffic authorities have issued a fresh advisory for Monday, stating that subject to fair weather and good road conditions, light and medium vehicles will be allowed to ply from both ends.

Heavy vehicles will be permitted to move towards Kashmir from Jakhani, Udhampur.

Commuters and vehicle operators have been advised to follow lane discipline and avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving to prevent traffic jams.

After 4 winters, Darbar spirit warms Jammu again

After 4 winters, Darbar spirit warms Jammu again

Jammu, Nov 2: Winter capital of Jammu and Kashmir is all set to welcome ‘Darbar Move’ after four years as all 86 offices, shut in Srinagar, will reopen in Jammu tomorrow, November 3, 2025.

Highlight of the day, however, will be a likely road-show by the Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to celebrate the momentous occasion of resumption of historic Darbar Move practice.

As per official sources, the Chief Minister is likely to traverse the distance from his official residence to the Civil Secretariat via Raghunath Bazar on foot in the form of a road-show to ensure that moment is etched in memory of Jammuites forever. He will start from his residence at around 9 am.

At the Civil Secretariat, the Chief Minister, as per sources, will be accorded ‘Guard of Honour’ at 9.30 am.

The Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, along with his father and the former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abdullah, have already arrived in the winter capital on the eve of opening of ‘Move offices’ in Jammu, by road.

Second batch of Move employees, along with important records, too reached Jammu on Sunday, November 2, 2025, following schedule.

Meanwhile, the Civil Secretariat has been fortified with a layered security.

As a part of resumption of full Darbar Move, 39 offices, including the Chief Minister’s Secretariat and all departments of the Civil Secretariat, have moved ‘in full’ while 47 offices have moved ‘in camp’ to Jammu.

However, the nine subordinate offices of the Home Department, which directly comes under the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha under the Union Territory set-up, will remain unaffected by the resumption of bi-annual ‘Move practice’, scrapped since 2021.

These offices i.e., Police Headquarters, J&K along with other associated offices; Prisons Headquarters, J&K; Directorate of Prosecution, J&K; Police Housing Corporation, J&K; Headquarters, Home Guards, Civil Defence and SDRF, J&K; Directorate of Fire and Emergency Services, J&K; Directorate of Forensic Science Laboratory, J&K; Directorate of Sainik Welfare Department, J&K and Directorate of Defence Labour Procurement, J&K will continue to function simultaneously at both Srinagar and Jammu.

A control room has been set up inside the Civil Secretariat to facilitate the Move employees and address their other issues following the opening of offices.

DIFFERENT SET-UP, DIFFERENT ‘DARBAR MOVE’ VIBES

Interestingly after the resumption of full ‘Darbar Move’, the ‘Move’ vibes would not exactly match to what they used to be four years ago or prior to that. However, they would definitely have an altogether different flavour.

Inside the Civil Secretariat, it would be a more or less similar scenario as was witnessed in November, 2024. (Though certainly in terms of governance or administrative presence, the difference will be distinctive as compared to 2024).

Exuberance (as usually displayed by employees) would be there but Move splendour, generally marked by the press conference (by the Chief Minister) after the guard of honour, would be missed, probably this time also.

The Model Code of Conduct (MCC) due to the Nagrota by-election is in force in Jammu district. Hence, the customary press conference is also not likely to happen. But informally the Chief Minister giving a sound-byte or two to the media persons cannot be ruled out.

Nevertheless, the warmth and high spirits of welcoming employees and officers, who would be in greater (or in full) strength this time will surely add to the moments of pomp and show, one believes.

Yet the real vibrancy of resumption of ‘Darbar Move’ will be experienced -outside the precincts of the Civil Secretariat, the nerve-centre of the governance – on the roads and markets of winter capital, which has been bracing for it, for quite some time.

Resumption of this historic practice, in particular, has enthused Jammu traders and business men.

Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) president Arun Gupta aptly echoes their sentiments as he says, “Darbar Move will immensely strengthen the brotherhood and harmony between the two regions (Jammu and Kashmir) and boost the economy by bringing vibrancy to the trade and business sectors of both regions.”

Darbar Move practice, initiated around 150 years ago by Dogra Maharaja with strategic and climatic considerations, was scrapped by the administration of the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha in 2021 with the assertion that it would save Rs 200 Cr of the state exchequer.

Initially, the LG administration, through its orders issued in April, 2021, had deferred the Darbar move for the summer session 2021 because of the COVID-19 situation in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

However, later the practice was fully scrapped with the directions that “move offices of Heads of the Departments, which move ‘in full’ and also the offices which move ‘in camp’, would continue to remain functional both at Jammu as well as Srinagar.”

JAMMU GETTING FACELIFT

Since the announcement of resumption of Darbar Move, the winter capital city and its outskirts have been undergoing a ‘hurried refurbishing exercise.’

Tawi bridges, prominent roads, mainly the designated routes for VIP movement, have been decked up. At certain places, repair works are still on. Dysfunctional street lights have been replaced. Intelligent traffic management systems too have witnessed improvement.

However, the construction and repair works are still underway in Amar Singh Ahata in Panjtirthi and some other places, where the J&K Estates Department has made arrangements for the stay of ‘Move employees.’

Security paraphernalia too has been geared up to ensure safe and secure ‘Move’ practice and employees’ stay for the next six months.

Additional deployment has been made all across Jammu city and outskirts, particularly at sensitive locations. Intensified night patrols and use of advanced surveillance modes are part of the layered security drill put in place for the ‘Darbar Move.’

Traffic chaos cripples Shopian town, commuters bear the brunt

Traffic chaos cripples Shopian town, commuters bear the brunt

Shopian, Nov 2: Traffic congestion in South Kashmir’s Shopian town has reached alarming levels, throwing daily life into disarray and causing severe inconvenience to residents and commuters.

The worst-hit areas include District Hospital Road, Four Way Chowk, and the Old Bus Stand, where vehicles remain gridlocked for hours during peak traffic.

Locals say the worsening situation has turned routine travel into an ordeal, particularly for patients and their attendants. “Many times, attendants are forced to leave their vehicles midway and carry patients on their backs to the hospital,” said social activist Mitha Gatoo. He added that it sometimes takes over half an hour to cover a few hundred metres due to severe congestion.

Residents attribute the chaos to narrow roads, haphazard parking, roadside encroachments, and the unchecked increase in vehicles. They also blame the lack of traffic regulation and poor administrative planning. “Traffic is not being managed properly. Months ago, a bike squad was introduced to regulate movement, but it disappeared soon after,” Gatoo said, adding that the bikes are now lying unused at the ARTO office. He further pointed out that assigning additional charges to Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) has diluted their focus on enforcement. “When officers are burdened with multiple responsibilities, traffic regulation naturally suffers,” he said.

Locals have urged the administration to strengthen the transport department and deploy sufficient personnel to ensure effective traffic management in the town.

Over 1 lakh tech jobs lost in 2025 as AI reshapes global workforce

Over 1 lakh tech jobs lost in 2025 as AI reshapes global workforce

New Delhi, Nov 2: More than one lakh employees have lost their jobs across 218 tech companies so far in 2025, marking one of the largest waves of layoffs in recent years.

From Silicon Valley to Bengaluru, major technology firms are cutting staff and restructuring operations as they pivot towards artificial intelligence, automation, and profitability after years of rapid expansion during the pandemic.

The trend, captured by data from Layoffs.fyi, shows how the global tech industry is undergoing a deep transformation as companies invest heavily in AI and cloud services while trimming traditional roles. Intel announced the biggest single layoff of the year, cutting 24,000 positions — roughly 22% of its global workforce.

The job cuts span facilities in the U.S., Germany, Costa Rica, and Poland as the chipmaker struggles to regain competitiveness against Nvidia and AMD. Intel said the move is part of a large-scale restructuring to improve efficiency and focus on core AI and semiconductor innovations. Amazon has also made major cuts, eliminating around 14,000 corporate jobs across its operations, HR, and cloud units.

CEO Andy Jassy described the decision as part of efforts to “run Amazon like the world’s largest startup,” aiming to streamline operations and redirect resources toward AI-driven initiatives. Microsoft has laid off about 9,000 employees this year across several rounds, primarily from its product and software divisions. The company said the move will allow it to concentrate on developing advanced AI tools and strengthening its cloud computing services. Google and Meta have also reduced headcount, trimming roles in their Android, hardware, and AI teams to remove overlaps and control costs.

Oracle, too, has laid off hundreds of employees in its U.S. offices while stepping up investments in AI-powered cloud platforms.

The effects of the global tech slowdown are being felt in India as well. Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), the country’s largest software exporter, recorded its steepest-ever quarterly drop in staff, cutting around 20,000 jobs in the July–September 2025 quarter. The company cited “AI-led restructuring” and a widening skills mismatch as reasons for the reduction — marking its first major workforce contraction since 2022.

Aaron praises Arshdeep, Bumrah after India’s 5-wicket victory in Hobart T20

Aaron praises Arshdeep, Bumrah after India’s 5-wicket victory in Hobart T20

Hobart, Nov 2: Former India pacer Varun Aaron heaped praise on fast bowling duo Arshdeep Singh and Jasprit Bumrah following the visitors’ five-wicket win over Australia in the third T20I, saying that having two of the world’s best fast bowlers is a huge asset for the Suryakumar Yadav-led side.

While Arshdeep took 3-35, Bumrah gave away only 26 runs in four overs. Though Bumrah didn’t get a wicket, the duo put out a masterclass of yorkers and low full tosses to give away only 16 runs off the last two overs.

“Arshdeep and Jasprit both excel at taking wickets and restricting runs. Having two of the world’s best T20 fast bowlers is a huge asset. Arshdeep was invaluable, especially with his ability to move the ball in the powerplay.”

“He bowled tightly to key batsmen like Travis Head and Josh Inglis, taking crucial wickets and maintaining pressure. Even though Marcus Stoinis played well, Arshdeep’s wickets were well deserved and pivotal for India,” said Aaron on JioStar.

Talking further about how the duo, especially Arshdeep, get their wickets, Aaron stated, “Both these bowlers excel at taking wickets and stopping runs, which makes them invaluable. Arshdeep’s skill in the powerplay, especially with his ability to swing the ball and take crucial wickets, is priceless.”

“His ability to dismiss key batsmen like Travis Head and Josh Inglis under pressure helped turn the game. Even if wickets don’t always reflect the effort, his contributions are vital for India’s success.”

He also highlighted Washington Sundar’s impressive batting display, after the all-rounder hit a match-winning 49 not out off just 23 balls. “Washington has demonstrated his effectiveness with the bat, especially against short-pitched deliveries, as we saw in the previous IPL.”
