I may forgive RJD-Cong but people of Bihar won’t pardon them for insulting my mother: PM

Kargil Vijay Diwas reminder of unparalleled courage of our soldiers: PM Modi

Patna, Sep 2: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said he was deeply pained by the hurling of abuses at his mother during Congress’ recently concluded ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar, and asserted that although he may forgive RJD and the grand old party but people of the eastern state would never pardon them.

In the PM’s first reaction to the controversy over hurling of abuses at his deceased mother during the yatra in Darbhanga recently, he took a dig at the opposition parties, stating that using expletives against his mother was nothing for those who insult ‘Mother India’, and that they should be punished.

“My late mother had nothing to do with politics, so what was her fault; why was she abused?” he questioned.

The PM was addressing a gathering in Delhi while virtually inaugurating a new cooperative for the women associated with self-help groups in Bihar.

“Bihar is the land of Maa Janki… it has always given respect to women. This is the land where Chhath Puja is celebrated. My mother was abused from the dais of RJD and Congress… I had never imagined such a thing would happen… it was an insult to the mothers and daughters of Bihar… people of the state will never forgive them,” Modi said.

“I am my mother’s son… I am sharing my pain with you,” he said.

“I have been working tirelessly for the welfare of the women in the country… the mother who gave birth to me asked me to serve the motherland, which I am doing. She had never brought a saree for herself and saved the money for us. I must say that the position of a mother is more than that of God,” the PM said.

Modi said that those who hurl abuses at mothers and sisters consider women weak.

“Their mindset makes them treat women as objects of exploitation and oppression. Whenever people with an anti-women mentality came to power, mothers, daughters and sisters had to endure suffering the most… this happened during the ‘mafia raaj’ of RJD,” he said.

“During the RJD era, crime was rampant in Bihar and the state witnessed cases of murder, extortion and rape every day. The RJD government gave protection to murderers and rapists. Women had to bear the brunt… so it was them who ousted the RJD from power and now the regional party wants to take revenge on women for that,” the PM alleged.

The Congress had never been able to tolerate any person from the backward community rising to a position of power and that is why they are unleashing a barrage of abuses, Modi claimed.

“I may forgive them, but the people of Bihar will never pardon them for insulting my mother. People of the state must say that they will punish the leaders of these parties in the coming days,” he said.

“People of Bihar must demand answers from RJD and Congress leaders… in every street and neighbourhood, only one voice should be heard – ‘we won’t tolerate insult to a mother, we will not tolerate RJD’s tyranny and Congress’ attacks,” he said.

Assembly elections in Bihar are due later this year.

TET mandatory for continued service of teachers

Srinagar, Sept 02: The Supreme Court has ruled that passing the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) is mandatory for all school teachers, including those appointed before the TET requirement was introduced. The ruling affects both continued employment and eligibility for promotion.

The judgment was delivered by a bench comprising Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Manmohan in a series of civil appeals, including Anjuman Ishat-E-Talim Trust vs State of Maharashtra & Others. The case centered on whether teachers hired before July 29, 2011—the date when the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) made TET mandatory for teaching classes 1 to 8—must also clear the exam to remain in service.

According to the reports, the bench also clarified that for retirement benefits, teachers must fulfill the required period of qualifying service. If there is any shortfall, the concerned department will take a decision on the matter as per rules.

Guidelines Issued by the Court

The Court laid out specific directions for serving teachers:

Teachers with less than five years until retirement
May continue in service without passing the TET, but will not be eligible for promotion unless they clear the test.

Teachers with more than five years until retirement
Must pass the TET within two years. Failure to do so will result in compulsory retirement or termination, with retirement benefits paid as applicable.

Srinagar, Sep 2: In the wake of recent flash floods and landslides that caused heavy damage across Jammu and Kashmir, the Directorate of Geology and Mining has issued directions for immediate clearance of silt, sand and other debris deposited on agricultural and proprietary lands.

The circular issued by the Director of Geology and Mining, S P Rukwal, stated that massive deposits of nalla mukh, sand, silt and bajri have accumulated in farmlands and along riverbanks due to the natural calamities. The deposition, the department noted, has not only damaged property but also rendered cultivable land unfit for use.

To mitigate the impact on local populations, District Mineral Officers have been directed to facilitate removal and lifting of debris material from affected proprietary and agricultural lands in accordance with the provisions of J&K Minor Mineral Concession and Mining Rules, 2016. The order also emphasises that clearance must be carried out without causing disturbance to the ground surface by pits or trenches.

The Directorate underlined that the removal of debris is essential for safeguarding agriculture and livelihoods in flood-hit districts, and that DMOs will be held accountable for any violations of the instructions. [KNT]

Kim Jong Un enters China on bulletproof train for rare foreign visit

Srinagar, Sept 02: North Korea’s leader, Kim Jong Un, has made a rare international journey—this time to China—boarding his signature bulletproof train to attend a military parade in Beijing. The visit, his first to China since January 2019, was confirmed by North Korea’s state media, marking his return to Beijing for a multilateral event after years of isolation.

As per reports, the train is known to include meeting rooms, private quarters, and even amenities like gold-embossed laptops and luxury furnishings.

According to reports, Kim’s appearance alongside Putin and Xi is set to highlight the strengthening ties among the three leaders and signal a shared willingness on their part to coordinate more openly in challenging US-led international norms. For Kim, the trip elevates North Korea’s diplomatic standing, putting him next to some of the world’s most powerful leaders.

The lavish, bulletproof train used by Kim Jong Un for his recent trip to China is part of a long-standing tradition among North Korea’s ruling family. Both his father, Kim Jong Il, and grandfather, Kim Il Sung, favored the train for international travel, viewing it as a secure and opulent mode of transport.

In 2023, he traveled to Russia by rail for a summit with President Vladimir Putin. Earlier, in 2019, he famously endured a 60-hour train ride to Vietnam for a meeting with then-U.S. President Donald Trump in Hanoi. Notably, during his first summit with Trump in 2018, Kim departed from tradition and flew to Singapore aboard a Boeing 747 provided by China.

Kim and Xi haven’t met in person since June 2019, when the Chinese leader visited Pyongyang and called for the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

Kashmir Power Grid exposed to cyber risks amid data gaps
Srinagar, Sep 02: In Jammu and Kashmir, real-time telemetry data continues to remain unavailable at both JK-SLDC and Northern Regional Load Despatch Centre (NRLDC), raising concerns about increased risks of data breaches and other cyber threats.

According to official documents, the NRLDC representative highlighted that “real-time telemetry data from Jammu and Kashmir remains unavailable at both JK-SLDC and NRLDC.”

The documents state that a POWERGRID representative informed that, previously, there were some fund issues at the state level, but recently an amount of Rs 25 crore (approx.) out of Rs 34 crore (approx.) has been received by POWERGRID through a central scheme fund.

They mention that the pending work of OPGW (35 out of 76) is scheduled to commence in August 2025, with TCIL and other associated vendors engaged by POWERGRID. “RTU deliveries have also started under the ULDC Phase-III project, with the first lot dispatched and the second under inspection.”

According to the documents, MS-NRPC called for real-time telemetry from the JK region and suggested that POWERGRID hold a bilateral meeting with JK to ensure better coordination, plan and expedite fund utilisation, synchronise OPGW and RTU integration activities, and resolve pending issues in a time-bound manner. “No representative from J&K was present at the meeting.”

The forum’s decision states that POWERGRID shall coordinate with J&K to expedite the installation of OPGW.

Regarding redundant RTU communication for the Main and Backup RLDC, the documents mention that during the meeting, a POWERGRID representative informed the forum that several RTUs and SAS installed at substations lack sufficient free ports to accommodate additional communication channels, necessitating the upgradation of these RTUs and SAS.

It was also discussed that interoperability issues, such as SDH, MPLS, etc., need to be addressed gradually and will require time to achieve stability.

IndiGrid expressed concerns about the compatibility of legacy equipment with Next Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) and the potential need for hardware upgrades, as well as the necessity to define a cost recovery mechanism for TBCB substations. (KNO)

Bengaluru techie dies after venomous snake bite in footwear

Srinagar, Sept 02: A 41-year-old software engineer in Bengaluru died after being bitten by a venomous snake that had hidden inside his footwear. The victim, identified as Manju Prakash, was a TCS employee and resident of Ranganatha Layout.

According to police and family accounts, Prakash had left his Crocs slippers outside his front door before stepping out briefly to buy juice. Upon returning, he unknowingly slipped his feet into the slippers, unaware that a snake had crawled inside during his absence.

Prakash did not feel the bite. He removed his slippers and went to his room to rest, unaware of the danger. When Mr Prakash’s mother went to check on him, she found him lying on the bed unresponsive, with foam around his mouth and a bleeding leg. The family immediately rushed him to a nearby private hospital, where doctors declared him dead.

A family worker later discovered the snake still inside the slipper and alerted Prakash’s father. The snake, reportedly dead by then—possibly from suffocation—was carefully removed from the footwear.

Experts have since urged residents to exercise caution, advising them to check footwear and dark corners of homes for snakes, especially in areas close to greenery or during rainy weather.

New Delhi, Sep 02: In a significant feat for the country to become a global semiconductor hub, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw on Tuesday presented the first made-in-India processor, along with test chips from four approved projects, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi here.

The first fully indigenous 32-bit microprocessor, called ‘Vikram,’ has been developed by ISRO’s Semi-conductor Laboratory (SCL).

It is designed to withstand the harsh environmental conditions of space launch vehicles, marking a milestone in India’s efforts to reduce dependency on imported chips.

Vaishnaw highlighted the rapid progress of India’s semiconductor infrastructure at the ‘Semicon India 2025’ event.

“Just a few years ago, we met for the first time to make a new beginning driven by our Prime Minister’s farsighted vision, we launched the India Semiconductor Mission. In a short span of 3.5 years, we have the world looking at India with confidence,” said the minister.

“Today, the construction of five semiconductor units is going on at a rapid pace. We just presented the first ‘Made-in-India’ chip to PM Modi,” he told the gathering.

India’s semiconductor journey has gained momentum under the Semicon India Programme.

The government has already approved 10 projects in critical areas such as high-volume fabrication units (Fabs), 3D heterogeneous packaging, compound semiconductors, and outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSATs).

In addition, design-focused initiatives have supported more than 280 academic institutions and 72 start-ups with advanced tools, while 23 start-ups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme.

Xi, Putin reaffirm ‘old friend’ ties in face of US challenges

Xi, Putin reaffirm 'old friend' ties in face of US challenges

Beijing, Sep 02: Chinese leader Xi Jinping welcomed Russian President Vladimir Putin as an “old friend” as the two began a series of meetings Tuesday at a time when their countries face both overlapping and differing challenges from the United States.

Relations between China and Russia have deepened in recent years, particularly after the Russian invasion of Ukraine in early 2022.

Putin addressed Xi as “dear friend” and said that Moscow’s ties with Beijing are “at an unprecedentedly high level.” Following their formal talks, they planned to have another meeting over tea with some of their top aides.

The talks come the day after both attended a summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation in the nearby Chinese city of Tianjin, and the day before a grand Chinese military parade in Beijing to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The Soviet Union was neutral for much of the war in Asia, but provided assistance to China in earlier fighting against invading Japanese forces in the 1930s. It also declared war on Japan in the last days of World War II and sent troops over the border into Japanese-occupied northeastern China.

“We were always together then, we remain together now,” Putin said.

China says it is neutral in the Ukraine war but has provided an economic lifeline to Russia by continuing trade despite western sanctions. Some of its companies have been accused of abetting the military industry.

Putin and Xi held a three-way meeting with Mongolian President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa ahead of their talks. His landlocked country of grasslands and mineral mines is sandwiched between the two giants.

Putin said in opening remarks that the three countries are good neighbours, with a shared interest in developing ties. “Our three countries have much in common,” he said.

In 2024, Putin made an official visit to Mongolia, where the government ignored calls to arrest him on an International Criminal Court warrant for alleged war crimes stemming from the invasion of Ukraine.
