GI tagged Sulai honey from Ramban mentioned in PM’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’

Banihal, Nov 30: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his radio programme Mann Ki Baat, highlighted the Geographical Indication (GI) tag granted to Sulai Honey of Ramban district and Bhaderwah Rajma of Jammu and Kashmir. He termed it a major achievement for the region that has brought these traditional products national and international recognition.

The GI tag has significantly increased their brand value and opened up new export opportunities. Experts believe that this recognition will not only protect the authenticity of these products but also help boost the local economy.

With growing demand in national and global markets, the development is expected to enhance the income of local farmers and producers, thereby contributing to the overall socio-economic growth of the region.

Sulai Honey, along with Bhaderwah Rajmash, was officially granted the GI tag on 30 August 2023.

More than six hundred people are related with beekeeping trade in Ramban district.

Delhi Police files a new FIR against Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi in National Herald case

New Delhi, Nov 30: The Delhi Police’s Economic Offences Wing (EOW) filed a new FIR in the National Herald money laundering case on Sunday.

The FIR included six names, in addition to Rahul Gandhi and Sonia Gandhi. It was registered after the ED headquarters filed a complaint with the EOW.

Meanwhile, the Rouse Avenue Court in Delhi again adjourned the decision on whether to take cognisance of the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) chargesheet in the National Herald money laundering case.

The chargesheet names several senior Congress leaders, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Sam Pitroda, Suman Dubey, and others, under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The ED has alleged financial irregularities involving Associated Journals Ltd (AJL), the original publisher of the National Herald. The court is now set to pronounce its order on December 16.

Earlier, the court had issued notices to Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, and others, noting that they have a “right to be heard” before any decision on cognisance is taken. Special Judge Vishal Gogne stressed that this right is essential for a fair trial, as supported by Section 223 of the new criminal law (BNSS).

The court highlighted that Section 223 allows the accused a special opportunity to be heard even before cognisance is taken. This provision, it said, does not conflict with the PMLA but, instead, strengthens fairness and transparency in criminal proceedings. The judge also noted that BNSS is a progressive law intended to protect the rights of the accused.

The court further observed that the predicate offence, already under trial at Rouse Avenue Court, includes IPC Sections 403, 406, 420, and 120B. As per PMLA rules, the predicate offence and the money laundering case must be heard in the same court.

The National Herald case originated from a complaint filed by former MP Subramanian Swamy, alleging misuse of funds by Congress leaders and companies linked to AJL.

Crime Branch Kashmir files chargesheet against police official in alleged job scam case

Pulwama, Nov 30: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Crime Branch Kashmir (CBK) has filed a chargesheet before the Court of the Special Mobile Magistrate, Pulwama, against a police official identified as Riyaz Ahmad Dar, son of Abdul Rashid Dar, and a resident of Naroo Ratnipora, Pulwama, in a job scam case, officials said.

The chargesheet was submitted in FIR No. 15/2025 under Section 420 of the IPC in connection with alleged cheating and corrupt practices.

According to a statement issued by a CBK spokesperson, the case originates from the receipt of credible information by EOW Srinagar, indicating that HC Riyaz Ahmad Dar (Belt No. 53/IRP 21st Bn, ARP No. 993957) had allegedly misused his position as a police official to deceive multiple innocent individuals under the pretext of providing them government jobs. Acting upon the information, a preliminary enquiry was initiated at Police Station EOW Srinagar.

The statement said that the probe revealed prima facie evidence that the accused had fraudulently collected money from several persons, exploiting their aspirations and trust with false promises of securing government employment. Following the substantiation of these allegations, cognizance of the matter was taken, and a formal case was registered at Police Station Economic Offences Wing, Srinagar.

“Subsequent investigation has established the criminal conduct of the accused, which prima facie constitutes offences punishable under Section 420 of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property. Accordingly, the chargesheet has been produced before the Hon’ble Court for judicial determination,” the spokesperson stated.

The Crime Branch Kashmir reiterates its commitment to upholding integrity, ensuring accountability, and taking firm action against corruption and fraud in all forms.

270 out of 338 affected aircraft receive Airbus software update: DGCA

270 out of 338 affected aircraft receive Airbus software update: DGCA

New Delhi, Nov 29: The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Saturday revealed the number of Indian airline services impacted as global flight operations continue to face disruptions due to a software issue in Airbus A320 aircraft.

According to the regulator, a total of 338 flights in India have been affected by the problem.

The DGCA said that out of these 338 flights, 270 have already completed the required software update and are now cleared to resume commercial operations. The issue emerged after the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) ordered a global software upgrade for all Airbus A320 aircraft.

The update is needed in the Elevator and Aileron Computer (ELAC), a crucial part of the aircraft’s flight control system. EASA identified the “ELAC B L104” units as the source of the vulnerability, leading to the worldwide directive that is set to impact nearly 6,000 flights.

Earlier in the day, Indian airlines such as IndiGo, Air India, and Air India Express warned passengers about possible delays due to the mandatory update. However, the DGCA has now confirmed that more than half of all A320 aircraft operating in India have already completed the software fix.

IndiGo has been the most affected, with 200 of its aircraft requiring the update. By 12 noon on Saturday, 160 of those aircraft had already completed the process, and the airline has not cancelled any flights so far.

Air India had 113 aircraft impacted, and 42 of them have successfully undergone the software upgrade. Air India Express had 25 aircraft affected, but only four have been updated at this stage.

While Air India has also avoided flight cancellations, Air India Express has faced delays. The airline confirmed that eight of its flights have been delayed due to the ongoing software updates, making it the worst-affected among Indian carriers.

The DGCA said it is closely monitoring the situation to ensure smooth operations across the country’s airports.

Trump declares Venezuela airspace closed after threatening land action

Trump declares Venezuela airspace closed after threatening land action

New York, Nov 30: Days after reportedly speaking directly with Venezuela’s President Nicolas Maduro, US President Donald Trump has ramped up his campaign against the country, declaring the airspace closed, signaling possible military action.

In a terse Truth Social Post on Saturday afternoon, he said, “… please consider THE AIRSPACE ABOVE AND SURROUNDING VENEZUELA TO BE CLOSED IN ITS ENTIRETY”.

Besides airlines and pilots, he directed the warning to “Drug Dealers, and Human Traffickers”, linking possible action to his campaign against illegal migration and his war on drugs.

For weeks, the US has been bombing on high seas vessels suspected of carrying drugs, hitting more than 20 from the air and killing over 80 people.

On Thursday, he said, “We’ll be starting to stop them by land”.

“Also, the land (action) is easier, but that’s going to start very soon”, he added in his Thanksgiving Day message to the military.

Venezuela said Trump’s declaration that its airspace is closed reeked of colonialism and was “hostile and unjustified”.

The region is swarming with US Navy ships led by the aircraft carrier USS Gerald Ford, and 15,000 military personnel have been deployed there.

The New York Times, quoting anonymous sources, reported that Trump and Maduro had spoken by phone and discussed a direct meeting, among other matters.

Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who is among the hawks on Maduro’s rule, was also on the call, the newspaper said.

Neither the White House nor Venezuela has confirmed the talks.

Media reports earlier said Maduro had offered the US access to its oil riches and other concessions, but insisted he should be allowed to retain power for 2 years – a condition Trump is unlikely to agree to.

Last week, the US designated a drug outfit, Cartel de los Soles, as a foreign terrorist organisation, and alleged that MAduro was its head.

This would allow Trump to claim that any action against Maduro and Venezuela was an anti-drug action, and, therefore, technically not a war.

Nor would it go against his earlier statements against foreign wars and regime change, and he probably hopes he would not be seen as a warmonger, endangering his claims to a Nobel Prize.

Trump could then say that he would not need the legally mandated Congressional approval required for a war.

Democratic Party leader in the Senate, Chuck Schumer, reminded him, “Under our Constitution, Congress has the sole power to declare war — not the president”.

“President Trump’s reckless actions towards Venezuela are pushing America closer and closer to another costly foreign war”, he added.
