US President hints at running for 3rd term with ‘Trump 2028’ AI image

Washington, Nov 29: US President Donald Trump drew attention after posting an AI-generated image on his Truth Social account showing him holding a blue sign that read “TRUMP 2028, YES!” The post was captioned “TRUMPLICANS!”, a blend of “Trump” and “Republicans.”

The image quickly renewed debate over the 22nd Amendment, which limits presidents to two elected terms, and whether Trump is attempting to signal interest in a future campaign beyond that limit.

The post comes nearly ten months into Trump’s second non-consecutive term, which began on January 20, 2025, as he works with a Republican-controlled Congress to advance his “America First 2.0” agenda, including an immigration crackdown and higher tariffs on major trading partners.

The “Trump 2028” message, already appearing on merchandise and in subtle references during public events, has become a recurring element of his second term.

In September, Trump posted pictures of “Trump 2028” hats placed on his desk during an Oval Office meeting with Democratic leaders Hakeem Jeffries and Chuck Schumer.

In October, House Speaker and prominent Republican leader Mike Johnson downplayed the possibility and claimed the president was just having a “good time…trolling”

“There is the 22nd Amendment…I think the president knows. And he and I have talked about the constrictions of the Constitution,” he told reporters at a news conference.

Trump also appeared to acknowledge that he could not run again.

“I’m not allowed to run, it’s too bad,” he said last month.

A new McLaughlin and Associates survey shows Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., is gaining traction among Republican voters as a possible candidate for the 2028 nomination, positioning him as a key rival to Vice President JD Vance.

In August, Vance held a 20-point lead, with 36 per cent support compared with Trump Jr.’s 16 per cent. By October, the race began to tighten: Vance led with 38 per cent while Trump Jr. rose to 20, narrowing the gap to 18 points. The trend has continued into November, when Vance’s lead shrank to 10 points, with support falling to 34 per cent as Trump Jr. climbed to 24 per cent.

According to the Meteorological Department (MeT)’s data, Srinagar registered a minimum temperature of minus 4.8 degrees Celsius, matching the reading recorded on November 28, 2007.

It was the city’s lowest November temperature in nearly two decades.

The all-time record for November in Srinagar remains minus 7.8 degrees Celsius, set on November 29, 1934.

The intense cold has been attributed to a prolonged dry spell and clear skies that enhanced radiational cooling.

Much of the Valley stayed well below freezing.

Shopian was among the coldest locations at minus 6.7 degrees Celsius, followed by Baramulla at minus 5.9 degrees Celsius, Anantnag and Pulwama at minus 6.2 degrees Celsius, Pampore at minus 6 degrees Celsius, and Pahalgam at minus 5.5 degrees Celsius.

Its all-time November low remains minus 8.2 degrees Celsius, set on November 24, 1962.

Tourist destinations saw slightly milder conditions, with Gulmarg at minus 1.4 degrees Celsius and Kokernag at minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.

In north Kashmir, Zethan, Rafiabad, recorded minus 5.3 degrees Celsius.

The coldest temperature in the region was once again reported from the strategic Zojila Pass, which dipped to a severe minus 16 degrees Celsius, disrupting movement across the high-altitude corridor. Sonamarg settled at minus 3.8 degrees Celsius.

In the Jammu region, most areas remained above freezing. Jammu city recorded 9.4 degrees Celsius, while Katra and Kathua both reported 8.2 degrees Celsius.

Higher-elevation areas saw sharper dips, including Bhaderwah at minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, Rajouri at 1.4 degrees Celsius, Ramban at 3.2 degrees Celsius, Batote at 3.6 degrees Celsius, Udhampur at 3.6 degrees Celsius, Doda at 2.9 degrees Celsius, Kishtwar at 3.5 degrees Celsius, Reasi at 6.4 degrees Celsius, and Banihal at 3.6 degrees Celsius.

In Ladakh, the cold persisted with Kargil at -9.6 degrees Celsius, Leh at minus 8.6 degrees Celsius, and Nubra valley at minus 8.3 degrees Celsius.

Residents across Kashmir and Ladakh have already begun relying on heating appliances, and reports of frozen water pipes have surfaced from several areas.

J&K, Northeast given permanent solution by Modi Govt: Amit Shah

New Delhi, Nov 28: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah, on Friday, said that Jammu and Kashmir and the Northeast had been given a permanent solution by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government.

Inaugurating the three-day 60th DGPs and IGPs Conference in Raipur, Chhattisgarh, the Union Home Minister, in his address, said that the PM Modi-led government had provided permanent solutions to the three hotspots which had become a festering wound for the nation – Naxalism, the northeast, and Jammu and Kashmir.

He said that the country had been facing the problem of Naxalism for the last 40 years and that very soon J&K and the North-East regions would become like the rest of the country.

Shah said that under the leadership of PM Modi, the DGPs and IGsP Conference had emerged as a key forum for resolving the country’s internal security challenges, ranging from identifying problems and challenges to formulating strategies and policies.

Referring to the actionable steps taken by the PM Modi-led government for the complete elimination of Naxalism, he said that in the last seven years, the Centre had strengthened the security grid by constructing 586 fortified police stations.

The Home Minister said that as a result, the number of Naxal-affected districts had come down from 126 in 2014 to just 11 today.

He expressed confidence that the country would be completely free from the menace of Naxalism before the next DGPs and IGPs Conference.

Highlighting the achievements of the PM Modi-led government, Shah said that the National Investigation Agency (NIA) had been strengthened, the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act (UAPA) had been made more robust, three New Criminal Laws had been introduced, and strong laws had been enacted against narcotics and fugitive offenders.

He said that once the three New Criminal Laws are fully implemented, policing in India would become the most modern in the world.

Referring to the PM Modi-led government’s action against terrorism and extremism, the Home Minister said that after the Centre banned the Popular Front of India (PFI), nationwide raids were conducted on their hideouts and arrests were made, which was an outstanding example of Centre-State coordination.

He said that security forces and Police were delivering strong blows to extremism, radicalisation and narcotics by focusing on three key aspects: accuracy of intelligence, clarity of objectives, and synergy in action.

“We must launch a 360-degree attack on narcotics and organised crime and build such a system that drug traffickers and criminals do not get even an inch of space in this country,” Shah said.

He said that the time had now come for state Police forces to work together with the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) and strike hard at narcotics gangs operating at state, national and international levels, and put their masterminds behind bars.

Missing of specially-abled man creates panic in Rajouri villages

Rajouri, Nov 28: Panic gripped areas of Palangarh and adjoining villages of Thannamandi in Rajouri on Thursday after a specially-abled man went missing amid suspected presence of leopard in the area.

The missing man was, however, recovered from the fields after night long efforts.

As per locals, a wild leopard was spotted in Copra mohalla of Palangarh in Thannamandi on Thursday evening and simultaneously a specially abled man, identified as Mohammad Qasim (33) son of Abdul Rashid went missing.

“We feared that the man was picked up by leopard and would have been mauled,” locals informed, stating that hundreds of villagers constituted different teams and started searching for the man that continued throughout the night.

However, they said, the man was found lying in the fields on Friday morning.

“We think that the leopard took away the man but left it in the fields after hearing noise of villagers,” said locals.

The officials of the Wildlife Protection Department, however, said that the man was having no injuries and thus there was hardly any possibility that a wild animal attacked him.

“We think it is a case of panic attack. The man got panicked in trauma after hearing about the presence of the leopard from people,” officials said.

Meanwhile, an operation is being conducted in the village area by the Wildlife Protection Department to track the leopard reportedly seen by villagers.

Raipur, Nov 28: Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Friday that the three hotspots that had become a “festering wound” for India — Naxalism, the northeast and Jammu and Kashmir — have been given “permanent solutions” by the Narendra Modi government and these regions will soon become like the rest of the country.

In his inaugural address at the three-day DGP/IGP annual conference here, Shah said a 360-degree attack has to be launched against narcotics and organised crime, and such a system has to be built that drug traffickers and criminals do not get “even an inch of space” in the country.

As a result, the number of Naxal-affected districts in the country has come down from 126 in 2014 to just 11 today, he added.

Shah expressed confidence that the country will be completely free from the menace of Naxalism before the next conference of directors general of police (DGPs) and inspectors general of police (IGPs).

Besides Shah, the 60th edition of the closed-door, off-camera huddle of police chiefs from across the country at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur will also see the participation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, National Security Adviser (NSA) Ajit Doval and the heads of central police organisations, including Intelligence Bureau chief Tapan Kumar Deka.

The important meeting comes within weeks of agencies busting a “white-collar” terror module that was behind a car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that claimed 15 lives on November 10.

The conference, which will conclude on November 30 with Modi’s address, aims to review the progress made in addressing key policing challenges so far and outline a forward-looking roadmap for building a “Surakshit Bharat”, in alignment with the national vision of “Viksit Bharat”, according to an official statement.
