CUS authorities interact with DYD programme students

A statement of CUS issued here said that the program would be conducted from Amar Singh College and Government College of Education (IASE), the two constituent colleges of Cluster University Srinagar.

It said that to run the DYD programme in its letter and spirit, it necessitates broader and deeper collaborations between the constituent colleges of CUS including other lead institutions in J&K and outside.

Prof Mobin while alleviating the concerns about the DYD programme assured the students full support from the university to meet the needs and demands of this course.

ìThe programme is in line with and represents the real spirit of NEP-2020 in its curricular, pedagogic and assessment domains,î the VC said. ìIt is no wonder that the students registering for this programme too must have the required attitude for immersing themselves wholeheartedly in this programme.î

Controller of Examinations Prof Mir congratulated the students for joining the first-of-its-kind innovative DYD programme offered by CUS.

He said that the programme would surely prove to be the game changer in the lives of students as it is attuned to the needs of the present times.

ìThis program is unconventional, in itself a disruptive program in the array of conventional programs offered by universities around the world,î he said. ìItís doing away with dead theory classrooms and bringing in a real-life curriculum into the university ecosystem.î

Prof Naz while highlighting the key features of the programme said, ìThe programme curriculum is curated and devised in such a fashion that it would trigger the critical and creative capacities of learners. This program will also test our institutional capabilities since its out-of-the-box courses like critical thinking, disruptive technologies, digital humanities and problem-solving in everyday life are knit with the day-to-day activities of life. The real-life problems while being brought to the classroom will invoke and incite diverse potentialities and capabilities in learners towards a focused and functional knowledge construction under the guidance of the mentors from diverse backgrounds.î

The CUS officials said that 30 students have already registered for the programme and as soon as the admission formalities are completed the programme would begin in the designated constituent colleges of the CUS as per the specified date.

They said that both the constituent colleges have been ramping up their efforts to provide deeper and wider experiences to the students of the programme.

ìCollaborations and partnerships have been cemented and strengthened with multiple institutions besides undertaking capacity building of mentors nominated for the programme,î the official said.

Saad’s fiery spell guides GVEI to victory in Birla Silver Rolling Cup

Pampore, Jun 12: A fiery opening spell by pacer Ahmad Saad propelled GVEI Pampore to victory over MEI Pampore in the Under-17 Birla Silver Rolling Cup.

Organised by Birla Open Minds. Saad’s early breakthroughs and a composed finish by Ehsaan helped GVEI edge past their rivals in a high-octane contest that kept spectators on the edge of their seats.

After winning the toss, GVEI elected to bowl first, and Saad made an immediate impact. The right-arm quick ripped through MEI’s top order with three early wickets, combining pace, control and swing to leave the batting side reeling.

Saad’s opening spell set the tone for GVEI, creating pressure that fellow bowler Rayan capitalised on in the death overs with a four-wicket haul.

Despite a resilient 53-run innings from MEI’s Afnan Rashid, the team managed only 125 in 15 overs.

In reply, GVEI’s chase got off to a shaky start, losing openers Arsh Maqbool and Furkan early. But middle-order batters Ayaan Shalla and Ibrahim stabilised the innings before Ehsaan sealed the win with a boundary when seven runs were needed off the final two balls. Ehsaan was named Game Changer for his clutch finish, while Saad’s fiery spell earned him praise as one of the tournament’s standout performers.

Refresher course for sports officials begins in Nagrota

Jammu, Jun 11: The Department of Youth Services and Sports (DYSS) on Wednesday launched a two-week refresher and orientation course for physical education officials at the Youth Hostel Nagrota.

As per a statement, the programme, inaugurated jointly by incoming DG YSS Anuradha Gupta and outgoing DG Rajinder Singh Tara, brings together around 80 PETs, PEMs, and PELs from across the Union Territory for specialised training in volleyball, kho-kho, and thang-ta.

The sports disciplines in which the officials are being trained include volleyball, kho-kho and thang-ta.

The department has named 10 trained and expert officials as the resource persons in the course and has nominated Altaf Hussain, departmental vigilance officer and warden of the youth hostel in Nagrota, as the one in charge of the camp.

While addressing the officials, both the dignitaries said, “Refresher training is important because it reinforces learning, prevents knowledge decay, and ensures employees maintain current skills and information.” “It helps employees adapt to changes, improves performance, and reduces the risk of errors. Refresher training also boosts morale and motivation by demonstrating an organisation’s commitment to employee development.”

“The concept of ‘infusing discipline and perfection’ among teachers is complex and can be approached in a way that focuses on excellence and continuous improvement rather than striving for unattainable flawlessness.” “Instead of aiming for perfection, teachers can focus on developing essential skills and qualities that contribute to effective teaching and student learning,” maintained administrative officers.

The DG Sports served strict directions to the concerned officers and officials to make an online portal for keeping the record of meritorious athletes and trained officials to yield better results.

She advised the Activities Section of the Directorate to classify the sporting disciplines and take initiatives with regard to holding activities in accordance with the merit of the athletes in a specific discipline in a particular area.

While advising the concerned officers to tap the talent at the grassroots level, Tara said the focus should be on unearthing talent in traditional games in hilly areas, the youth of which are naturally well-built.

The incoming Director General of Youth Services and Sports asked the trainers (experts) for their inputs for the betterment of the system and the experts of various games (resource persons) to present a roadmap.

Anuradha said that she observed a streamlined system in the department under the dynamic leadership of Tara, adding that she will leave no stone unturned in making the department flourish.

Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner has history of technical issues globally

0
"Ahmedabad airport now available for flight operations," says Civil Aviation Ministry following Air India plane crash

New Delhi, June 12: The Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, known for its advanced technology and fuel efficiency, has reportedly faced several technical and safety issues worldwide over the years.

On Thursday, one of these aircraft, operated by Air India as flight AI 171, crashed shortly after takeoff. The plane, headed to London’s Gatwick Airport, was carrying 242 people on board, including 10 crew members.

While the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner is widely used for long-haul international flights and is considered a modern and efficient aircraft, it has had a history of safety concerns.

In 2013, the entire global fleet of Dreamliners was grounded after incidents of lithium-ion battery fires, including one on a parked Japan Airlines jet in Boston and another mid-air emergency in Japan.

These incidents led the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to suspend Dreamliner operations until Boeing redesigned the battery system.

In 2024, Boeing again came under scrutiny after whistleblower Sam Salehpour, an engineer at the company, reportedly told the US Senate about structural problems in the Dreamliner’s fuselage.

He claimed that small gaps and improper assembly could cause early wear and possible structural failure. The FAA launched an investigation, which is still ongoing.

Despite being marketed as one of the safest and most advanced aircraft in the skies, the Dreamliner has been linked to several technical faults.

In March this year, a Boeing 787-9, operated by LATAM Airlines, experienced a sudden altitude drop mid-flight, injuring 50 people. The cause was later identified as a malfunction in the cockpit seat.

Over the years, pilots have also reported issues such as engine icing, fuel leaks, generator failures, and electrical system faults.

According to Flightradar24 data, the plane that crashed on Thursday made its first flight in 2013 and was delivered to Air India in January 2014.

The cause of the plane crash in Ahmedabad is still under investigation by Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).

The Central government has promised full support for rescue and relief efforts. The number of casualties was yet to be confirmed.
