HM Amit Shah blasts Congress for coining ‘saffron terror’, says ‘Hindus can never be terrorists’

Every terror attack from Uri to Pahalgam given befitting reply: Amit Shah

New Delhi, July 30: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday listed out several Congress-era errors, leading to the formation of Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and loss of vast swathes of land to enemy nations and also tore into the grand old party’s appeasement politics for political gains.

Speaking on Operation Sindoor debate, the Home Minister held Congress’ policies responsible for multiple acts of terror in the country, while categorically stating that Hindus can never be terrorists.

HM Shah said that the desperation of the Congress party for a certain vote bank, in all these years, emboldened the terrorists and their motives.

Blasting the previous Congress regimes for coining ‘saffron terror’, he said that the grand old party demonised the majority community i.e. Hindus for its myopic political gains.

Recalling the Batla House encounter, he said that the Congress party abandoned its own forces and stood with Pakistan-sponsored terrorists for appeasing a certain community.

“When the country mourned the demise of brave cop Mohan Sharma in Batla House encounter, Sonia Gandhi wept for the Batla House shooters,” he said, questioning the absurd politicking of Congress party.

The Home Minister also rebutted Congress’ China jab and spoke about instances when the latter’s conduct looked dubious and diabolical.

“When our forces were engaging with enemy forces during Doklam face-off, the Congress leaders were clandestinely meeting Chinese officials. What kind of politics is this?” he questioned.

Responding to Chidambaram’s charge that Operation Sindoor was not decisive, he asked the principal opposition party whether the 1965, 1971 battles were final and decisive and if Pakistan stopped spreading terror after being then taught a lesson.

He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government has instilled fear in the minds and hearts of terrorists across the border and whenever the terror elements will rear its head, “our Army will crush them again”.

Mutton dealers’ strike enters day 5 in Kashmir, supply chain paralysed

Srinagar, July 30: The mutton crisis in Kashmir deepened further on Wednesday as the strike by mutton dealers entered its fifth consecutive day, triggering supply shortages across markets and raising alarm among families preparing for the marriage ceremonies.

The strike, led by the Mutton Dealers Association of Kashmir, has brought the supply of meat to a near standstill across the Valley.

General Secretary, Mutton Dealers Association, Mehrajuddin Ganai, criticized the government for failing to address the core issues faced by dealers in Punjab. “We tried to reach out to officials in Punjab, but no one is ready to listen to us. Our transporters and dealers are facing extortion, threats, and harassment on highways. The authorities have turned a blind eye,” Ganai said.

Dealers claim that despite paying all taxes and duties, they are being arbitrarily stopped and extorted while transporting livestock from Punjab to Kashmir. “We are not asking for favors, just a fair and safe system to carry out our trade,” a protesting dealer said.

The timing of the strike has compounded worries as Kashmir’s wedding season gathers pace. “If the strike continues, it will directly impact wedding functions. Mutton is essential for traditional Wazwan. This disruption is unbearable,” said a Srinagar-based caterer who fears mass cancellations.

Meanwhile, the three-member committee constituted by the government to talk to the Punjab Government has not left for Punjab. (KNT)

Centre issued directions to block over 1,400 fake URLs on digital media

New Delhi, July 30: The government issued directions for blocking over 1,400 URLs on digital media during ‘Operation Sindoor’, as their content included false, misleading, anti-India news content, communally sensitive content — primarily from Pakistan-based social media accounts, and inciteful content against Indian Armed Forces, the Parliament was informed on Wednesday.

Union Railways and Electronics and IT Minister, Ashwini Vaishnaw, said in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha that it was observed that certain social media handles, many operating from outside India, were actively propagating false and potentially harmful information during the Pahalgam terror attack and ‘Operation Sindoor.’

“Under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act 2000, the government issued necessary orders to block websites, social media handles and posts in the interest of sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of the State, and public order,” he said.

On April 26, 2025, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting had issued an advisory to all media channels to refrain from showing live coverage of defence operations and movement of security forces in the interest of national security.

During ‘Operation Sindoor’, a centralised Control Room was established for interdisciplinary and inter-departmental coordination. This Control Room functioned 24×7 and facilitated real-time information dissemination to all media stakeholders.

The minister further informed that this Control Room comprised nodal representatives from the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force, along with officers from various government media units, and officials from the Press Information Bureau (PIB). Social media handles and posts spreading fake news and misinformation were actively identified.

“Fact Check Unit under the PIB actively monitored social media platforms and online news sources in real time to detect fake images, edited videos, misleading narratives, and any manipulated content targeting the operation’s objectives, government agencies, or security forces,” said Vaishnaw.

The Unit debunked Pakistani propaganda against India and the Indian armed forces and fact-checked many posts countering such content. Additionally, the links related to disinformation or false news concerning ‘Operation Sindoor’, fact-checked by the FCU, were promptly shared with concerned intermediaries for appropriate action.

At least 46 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire, Gaza hospitals say, as the war drags on

Israeli airstrikes kill 24 Palestinians in Gaza, including 10 seeking food

Deir Al-Balah (Gaza Strip), July 30: Israeli strikes and gunfire in the Gaza Strip killed at least 46 Palestinians overnight into Wednesday morning, most of them among crowds seeking food, local hospitals said.

The dead include more than 30 people who were killed while seeking humanitarian aid, according to that treated dozens of wounded people.

The Israeli military didn’t immediately comment on any of the strikes, but says it only targets militants and blames civilian deaths on Hamas, because the group’s militants operate in densely populated areas.

The deaths came as the United Kingdom announced that it would recognize a Palestinian state in September, unless Israel agrees to a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war, following a similar declaration by France’s president. Israel’s foreign ministry said that it rejected the British statement.

The Shifa hospital in Gaza City said that it received 12 people who were killed Tuesday night when Israeli forces opened fire towards crowds awaiting aid trucks coming from the Zikim crossing in northwestern Gaza.

Thirteen others were killed in strikes in the Jabaliya refugee camp, and the northern towns of Beit Lahiya and Beit Hanoun, the hospital said.

In the southern city of Khan Younis, the Nasser hospital said it received the bodies of 16 people who it says were killed Tuesday evening while waiting for aid trucks close to the newly-built Morag corridor, which separates Khan Younis from the southernmost city of Rafah.

The hospital received another body for a man killed in a strike on a tent in Khan Younis, it said.

The Awda hospital in the urban Nuseirat refugee camp said that it received the bodies of four Palestinians who it says were killed Wednesday by Israeli fire close to an aid distribution site run by the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation, or GHF, in the Netzarim corridor area, south of the Wadi Gaza.

In addtion, seven Palestinians, including a child, have died of malnutrition-related causes in the Gaza Strip in the past 24 hours, the territory’s health ministry said on Wednesday. A total of 89 children have died of malnutrition since the war began in Gaza. The ministry said that 65 Palestinian adults have also died of malnutrition-related causes across Gaza since late June, when it started counting deaths among adults.

Hamas started the war with a militant-led attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023, in which around 1,200 people and abducted 251 others. They still hold 50 hostages, though Israel believes that more than half the remaining hostages are dead. Most of the rest were released in ceasefires or other deals.

Israel’s retaliatory offensive has killed more than 60,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry. Its count doesn’t distinguish between militants and civilians. The ministry operates under the Hamas government. The UN and other international organisations see it as the most reliable source of data on casualties.

Chugh hits out at NC; says Abdullah’s broke promises, playing cultural victim card

Chugh hits out at NC; says Abdullah’s broke promises, playing cultural victim card

Baramulla, July 30: BJP National General Secretary and Jammu & Kashmir Incharge Tarun Chugh today launched a fierce attack on the National Conference from Baramulla, holding them accountable for both broken promises and dangerous rhetoric.

Speaking at a BJP workers’ meeting, Chugh tore into the NC leadership, Farooq Abdullah and Omar Abdullah, reminding them of the grand promises made before elections that were conveniently forgotten. “Where are the one lakh jobs they promised? What happened to filling all government vacancies within 180 days? Where are the six free LPG cylinders and the 200 units of free electricity? These weren’t just promises, they were a fraud on the youth and poor of J&K,” Chugh said, drawing loud applause from karyakartas.

Calling the NC manifesto a cruel joke, Chugh said the party has failed to deliver even the basics, and is now trying to divert attention by crying “cultural invasion” over tourism. “Instead of answering for their failures, they’ve now found a new excuse—labeling Indian tourists as invaders. This is not just laughable, it is sinister,” he added.

Reacting strongly to NC MP Aga Rahulla’s remarks describing tourism as a “cultural invasion,” Chugh said such statements echo Pakistan-sponsored propaganda. “When NC leaders brand Indian tourists as cultural invaders, they insult the warmth, hospitality, and inclusive identity of Kashmiris,” Chugh stated.

He said tourism brings livelihoods, hope, and connectivity to the people of Jammu & Kashmir, and only those clinging to outdated politics of hate would oppose it. “This regressive mindset shows NC’s desperation. They cannot digest the fact that Kashmir is healing and prospering under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership,” he said.

Taking on NC’s historical baggage, Chugh pointed to the series of rigged elections in Jammu & Kashmir which eroded public trust, deepened alienation, and laid the groundwork for decades of bloodshed. “The NC repeatedly manipulated democratic institutions and silenced real voices. Their politics directly enabled Pakistan and terror networks to exploit Kashmir’s wounds,” Chugh said.

He also slammed the party for its deafening silence after the successful and peaceful conduct of the Holy Muharram procession in Srinagar after more than three decades. “This was a moment of deep cultural and religious pride for the people of the Valley. But the NC, as usual, couldn’t stomach a positive change under the Modi government. Their silence is proof that political gains matter more to them than people’s faith and traditions,” he said.

Chugh didn’t spare NC leaders for refusing to acknowledge the historic voter turnout in the recent Lok Sabha elections either. “The people of Kashmir rejected separatist threats and stood firm with democracy. NC has no moral right to sit in Parliament while disrespecting the very system that elected them,” he asserted.

Referring to the Pahalgam tragedy, Chugh said that at a time when unity and compassion are needed, the NC is playing a communal and divisive game. “They couldn’t even stand with the victims. Instead, they chose to amplify narratives that help Pakistan and radical elements. This is not opposition politics. This is betrayal.”

Rejecting the term “cultural invasion” as vicious and baseless, Chugh said that the people of Kashmir have moved on from the politics of fear and blackmail. “NC’s days of emotional blackmail and dynastic entitlement are over. Kashmiris want jobs, peace, and dignity—not slogans from 1975,” he said.

Praising the people of Jammu & Kashmir for their resilience, Chugh concluded, “Their spontaneous response after the Pahalgam massacre, their defiance of separatist calls, and their love for the Constitution show one thing clearly—Kashmir has changed. And NC simply cannot handle it.”

Trump tells BBC he is 'disappointed but not done' with Putin, backs NATO and UK ties

Washington, July 30: US President Donald Trump has announced a 25 per cent plus tariff on India from Aug 1.

Trump, describing India as a “friend”, said the US has done relatively “little business” with the country because its high tariffs.

India’s tariffs are far too high, and they have the “most strenuous” and “obnoxious non-monetary trade barriers”, he said in a social media post.

India will be paying 25 per cent plus penalty starting August 1.

“Remember, while India is our friend, we have, over the years, done relatively little business with them because their Tariffs are far too high, among the highest in the World, and they have the most strenuous and obnoxious non-monetary Trade Barriers of any Country. Also, they have always bought a vast majority of their military equipment from Russia, and are Russia’s largest buyer of ENERGY, along with China, at a time when everyone wants Russia to STOP THE KILLING IN UKRAINE — ALL THINGS NOT GOOD! INDIA WILL THEREFORE BE PAYING A TARIFF OF 25%, PLUS A PENALTY FOR THE ABOVE, STARTING ON AUGUST FIRST. THANK YOU FOR YOUR ATTENTION TO THIS MATTER. MAGA!,” Donal Trump said on Truth Social.

India-US space ties soar as ISRO-NASA launch NISAR Earth Observation Satellite

India-US space ties soar as ISRO-NASA launch NISAR Earth Observation Satellite

New Delhi, July 30: In a major step forward for India-US space cooperation, the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar (NISAR) satellite was successfully launched today from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota aboard India’s GSLV-F16 rocket.

The mission marks the first joint Earth observation venture between the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and the United States’ National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), blending the technical expertise and resources of both nations.

NISAR will play a key role in monitoring environmental changes and natural disasters across the globe. It is designed to track movements of the Earth’s surface, including earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, and landslides. It will also assist in monitoring agricultural activity, soil moisture, sea ice, storm systems, and shoreline changes.

NASA contributed the L-Band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR), GPS receivers, a high-rate telecom subsystem, and a 12-meter deployable antenna. ISRO provided the S-Band SAR payload, the satellite bus that houses both payloads, the GSLV-F16 launch vehicle, and launch services.

The NISAR mission is not just a scientific milestone, it’s a strategic symbol of growing India-US collaboration in the space sector. It reflects the vision set out by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, who, during their February 2025 summit in Washington DC, declared 2025 as a breakthrough year for bilateral civil space cooperation.

Today’s launch follows another significant achievement earlier this year: the joint NASA-ISRO initiative that sent the first Indian astronaut to the International Space Station. Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla flew to the ISS aboard a private Axiom Space mission from June 25 to July 15, underscoring India’s growing role in human spaceflight efforts.

During their summit, PM Modi and President Trump also committed to deepening cooperation on long-duration human spaceflight, space safety, and planetary protection. They called for expanded commercial collaboration across areas like satellite technology, connectivity, advanced launch systems, sustainable space operations, and even space tourism and manufacturing.

NISAR stands as a testament to the strength of Indo-US scientific collaboration and the promise of future joint missions that aim to benefit not just both countries, but the wider world.
