“Dhankhar was forced to resign, threatened with impeachment,” claims TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee

"Dhankhar was forced to resign, threatened with impeachment," claims TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee

New Delhi, July 23: Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Kalyan Banerjee on Wednesday alleged that Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar was “forced” to resign from his post by “Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior Cabinet ministers,” claiming he was “threatened” with impeachment.

Addressing the media, Banerjee further claimed that Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh “would be made” the next Vice President of India.

“Jagdeep Dhankhar was forced to resign by the Prime Minister and other Cabinet ministers. He was threatened that if he didn’t resign before 9 pm on that day, an impeachment motion would be brought against him. This is a pressure tactic by the PM and other Cabinet ministers. Earlier, one Election Commissioner resigned just before the elections… It is being heard that now Rajnath Singh will be made vice president,” Kalyan Banejree said.

His remarks came amid continued speculation surrounding Dhankhar’s sudden resignation, which was announced on Monday evening, the opening day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Opposition leaders have expressed surprise over Dhankhar’s decision and said there “are far deeper reasons” for his resignation. The resignation came on the first day of the Monsoon Session of Parliament.

Earlier in the day, Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge expressed scepticism over Jagdeep Dhankhar’s resignation as Vice President, suggesting that there was something not quite right with his decision.

“The government should answer why he resigned. I can see ‘dal mein kuch kaala hai.’ His health is fine. He used to defend RSS and BJP always. Who and what is behind his resignation should be known to the country,” Mallikarjun Kharge said.

Deputy Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the Lok Sabha, Gaurav Gogoi, took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi over his remarks on Dhankhar’s resignation, alleging that the Prime Minister’s comments highlighted the political nature of the resignation.

Dhankhar resigned from his post on Monday evening “to prioritise health care and abide by medical advice”.

“To prioritise health care and abide by medical advice, I hereby resign as the Vice President of India, effective immediately, in accordance with Article 67(a) of the constitution,” Dhankhar said in his letter.

“I extend my deepest gratitude to Your Excellency – the Hon’ble President of India for her unwavering support and the soothing, wonderful working relationship we maintained during my tenure,” he added.

Dhankhar also expressed his deep gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Council of Ministers.

“Prime Minister’s cooperation and support have been invaluable, and I have learned much during my time in office,” he said.

PM Modi embarks on UK and Maldives visit, says ties will see new momentum

New Delhi, July 23: Prime Minister Narendra Modi departed on Wednesday for a four-day official visit to the United Kingdom and the Maldives, with a clear agenda to bolster India’s bilateral ties and economic partnerships with both nations.

In a statement ahead of his departure, Prime Minister Modi said he looked forward to deepening the “Comprehensive Strategic Partnership” between India and the United Kingdom, a relationship that has seen “significant progress in recent years.”

Highlighting sectors like trade, technology, innovation, defence, and education, he noted that his discussions with British Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer would focus on enhancing economic cooperation “aimed at fostering prosperity, growth and job creation in both countries.”

PM Modi is also scheduled to call on King Charles III during the visit, underlining the depth of bilateral ties. India and the UK upgraded their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2021. Since then, the two countries have witnessed high-level engagements, including multiple meetings between PM Modi and PM Starmer over the past year, most recently during the G7 Summit in June 2025.

The bilateral economic relationship has reached a new milestone, with India-UK trade crossing USD 55 billion in 2024. A major highlight was the announcement of the India-UK Free Trade Agreement on May 6, 2025. UK’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy has visited India twice in the past year, while External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar visited London in March. Several institutional mechanisms, including 2+2 dialogues and ministerial-level consultations, have added momentum to the partnership.

On the technology front, the Technology Security Initiative (TSI), launched in July 2024, has emerged as a major pillar of collaboration, covering sectors such as telecom, AI, semiconductors, biotech, and quantum technologies. UK is also India’s largest partner in international research collaborations, while the education linkages have strengthened with the opening of Southampton University’s Gurugram campus, the first under India’s New Education Policy.

The Prime Minister will also travel to the Maldives from July 25 to attend the celebrations marking the 60th anniversary of the country’s independence. His visit comes at the invitation of Maldivian President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu.

PM Modi highlighted that this year also marks six decades of diplomatic relations between India and the Maldives. In Male, the Prime Minister will hold talks with President Muizzu and other political leaders. “I look forward to my meetings… to advance our joint vision of a Comprehensive Economic and Maritime Security Partnership, and to strengthen our cooperation for peace, prosperity and stability in the Indian Ocean Region,” he said.

India and the Maldives share a strong neighbourhood-first engagement, with the Prime Minister expressing confidence that the visit will “yield tangible outcomes” benefiting both nations and reinforcing India’s strategic focus on the Indian Ocean Region.

Election Commission starts process to elect new Vice President

Election Commission starts process to elect new Vice President

New Delhi, July 23: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday announced the commencement of the election process for the Office of the Vice President after Jagdeep Dhankhar resigned from the post.

Dhankhar tendered his resignation to President Droupadi Murmu on July 21, citing health concerns.

“The MHA vide its Gazette Notification S.O.3354(E) dated July 22, 2025, has notified the resignation of Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Vice President of India,” the ECI said in a statement, adding that it is, under Article 324, “mandated” to conduct the election to the office of the Vice President of India.

The election to the office of the Vice President of India is governed by The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Act, 1952, and the rules made under it — The Presidential and Vice-Presidential Elections Rules, 1974.

“Accordingly, the Election Commission of India has already started the preparations relating to the Vice-Presidential Elections, 2025. On completion of the preparatory activities, the announcement of the Election Schedule to the office of the Vice-President of India will follow as soon as possible,” the polls body said.

The ECI also mentioned that major pre-announcement activities, which are already been started, include preparation of Electoral College, which consists of elected as well as nominated members of Rajya Sabha as well as Lok Sabha; Finalisation of Returning Officer/ Assistant Returning Officer(s); and Preparation and dissemination of Background Material on all the previous Vice-Presidential elections.

Until that election is concluded, the Deputy Chairman of the Rajya Sabha steps in to discharge the Vice President’s parliamentary duties, including presiding over proceedings in the Upper House.

However, this temporary arrangement does not confer the title of Acting Vice President or confer broader constitutional authority beyond the Rajya Sabha chairmanship.

According to experts, under the Constitution, the Election Commission must fill the vacancy “as soon as possible”, typically within six months. The new Vice President, once elected, will serve a full five-year term rather than simply completing the remainder of Dhankhar’s tenure.

LS adjourned till 2 pm amid opposition protests on SIR in Bihar

New Delhi, July 23: The Lok Sabha witnessed noisy scenes and disruptions for the third consecutive day of the Monsoon session on Wednesday as opposition members continued protesting against the revision of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Waving placards and raising slogans, opposition members stormed into the Well of the House during Question Hour, leading to the adjournment of the proceedings till 12 noon.

Similar scenes played out when the House reconvened and BJP leader Sandhya Ray, who was in the Chair, adjourned the proceedings till 2 pm after laying of parliamentary papers and introduction of two bills of the sports ministry.

Opposition members raised slogans like “SIR wapas lo (Roll back SIR)”.

The opposition is demanding a discussion on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar, an exercise initiated by the Election Commission ahead of the state assembly polls due later this year.

Speaker Om Birla said the protesting MPs were behaving as if they were on the streets and warned that he would be forced to take “decisive” action against them.

“You should behave in a manner that reflects the hopes and aspirations of the people who have elected you. You should work in a manner and debate and discuss issues that will make people’s lives easier. But you have been showing street-like behaviour in Parliament,” he said.

Birla also told the members that their behaviour does not behove Parliamentarians.

“The MPs are not supposed to carry placards. If you continue with such acts, I will be forced to take decisive action,” he said and asked the members to take their seats.

The House witnessed repeated adjournments and could not function on the first two days of the Monsoon session due to opposition protests over the demand for a discussion on Operation Sindoor and the SIR in Bihar.

Trump aide meets Imran Khan’s sons in US, calls for end to ‘political prosecutions’

"You are not alone": Trump aide meets Imran Khan's sons in US, calls for end to 'political prosecutions'

California, July 23: Richard Grenell, US President Donald Trump’s envoy for special missions, on Tuesday (local time) met the sons of jailed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan in California and once again called for the former Pakistani Prime Minister’s release, terming his arrest a case of “political prosecution.”

Grenell posted a photo with Imran Khan’s elder son Sulaiman Isa and his second son Kasim Khan, writing that he “loved hanging out” with them and welcoming them to California.

In a post on X, Grenell wrote, “Welcome to California, my friends. I loved hanging out with you today. Sulaiman and @Kasim_Khan_1999, you must stay strong. There are millions of people around the world who are sick of political prosecutions. You are not alone.”

Grenell’s latest comments come amid continued criticism from PTI leaders and rights activists over Khan’s detention conditions in Adiala Jail, where he has been imprisoned since August 2023.
This is not the first time the former US ambassador has supported Imran Khan. In an interview with Newsmax during Trump’s election campaign, Grenell stated that the US had “a much better relationship with Pakistan” during the Trump administration, when Khan was in office.

He described Khan as a political outsider with a common-sense approach, drawing parallels between Khan’s arrest and the legal challenges faced by Donald Trump in the US.

“We had a much better relationship with Pakistan during the Trump administration when a guy named Imran Khan was the leader of Pakistan. That’s because Imran Khan was an outsider. He was a former cricket player and actually the captain of the Pakistani national cricket team. He wasn’t a politician, and he spoke in very common-sense language. He and Donald Trump had a very good relationship,” Grenell said.

“I’d like to see Imran Khan be released from jail. He’s currently in prison, facing many of the same allegations as President Trump, where the ruling party put him in prison and created some sort of corruption and false allegations,” he added.

Meanwhile, PTI continues to raise concerns over Khan’s prison conditions. As per a Dawn report, PTI Central Information Secretary Sheikh Waqqas Akram said at a press conference on Friday that Khan is being held in a “death cell,” with no access to books, television, or newspapers.

“Despite being a former prime minister, Khan was denied both his status and even the basic rights of an ordinary prisoner, which was a matter of grave concern, as he was the country’s most popular leader, and the entire nation was deeply worried about his well-being and safety,” Akram said.

He warned that the ongoing political and judicial pressure, coupled with poor prison conditions, was pushing Pakistan towards a “constitutional and humanitarian crisis.” (ANI)

How to Test and Tweak Slogans That Actually Convert

How to Test and Tweak Slogans That Actually Convert

If you’ve ever stared at your brand tagline and wondered, ‘Does this actually stick?’ — you’re not alone. Whether you’re launching a new product, prepping an email blast, or printing your first run of merch, your words matter just as much as your visuals.

That’s where a trusty slogan maker comes in. Instead of guessing which one-liner will resonate with your audience, you can create, test, and polish your catchphrases in minutes — and make sure they really convert.

Pippit makes this whole process ridiculously simple for startups, solopreneurs, or social media managers juggling multiple campaigns at once. Ready to see if your slogans are as sticky as you hope? Let’s break it down!

How a single, short statement may accomplish a lot

Why slogans need to work hard — and fast

It doesn’t matter if you’re running Facebook ads, TikTok reels, or your Etsy shop: your slogan is often the first thing people see and remember. A good one-liner can:

  • Prior to your audience scrolling past, grab their attention.

  • Spark curiosity that makes people click through.

  • Instantly communicate your brand vibe or offer.

  • Get stuck in people’s heads — and on their shopping lists.

But here’s the catch: even the most clever catchphrase can flop if it’s not tested. So, how do you know what resonates? Simply — you test, tweak, and test again.

‘Set it and forget it’ phrases: unspoken dangers

What occurs if the testing phase is skipped?

Too many startups throw a slogan on a website header or product packaging and never look back. But here’s what happens when you skip the testing stage:

  • It falls flat: What sounds witty to you might be confusing or unmemorable to your audience.

  • It doesn’t connect: Cultural references, slang, or wordplay might not land in different regions or age groups.

  • It doesn’t match your visuals: A bold, playful line on a dull background? Mixed signals galore.

That’s why the smart move is to pair a strong catchphrase with real-time data and fan feedback. A slogan maker can help you brainstorm fast, but testing tells you what actually sells.

Quick ways to test your slogan in the wild

Swipe these easy A/B tricks

No complicated focus groups needed. Here are a few fun, practical ways to see which one-liner works best:

  • Ad split tests: Run the same ad with two different headlines and see which drives more clicks.

  • Email subject lines: Use two versions of the slogan as your subject and measure open rates.

  • – Polls & Stories: Allow your followers to vote on a side-by-side mockup that you post on Instagram Stories.

  • Product pages: Test two versions of your landing page, each with a different tagline.

When your fans pick their favorite, you’ll know you’re onto something.

Why tweaks are just as powerful as tests

Your slogan isn’t stuck in stone

The best slogans evolve. Once you’ve got some early feedback, go back and tweak:

  • Shorten it for social media bio versions.

  • Add a seasonal spin (‘Sip, Savor, Repeat’ turns into ‘Sip, Savor, Sleigh’ for the holidays).

  • Make it pop visually by pairing it with a fresh background — that’s where Pippit’s AI background generator can transform a basic post into a scroll-stopper.

Use visuals to double your impact

Match your catchphrase with eye candy

A witty line floating on a boring graphic is a wasted opportunity. Here’s how to keep your vibe consistent:

  • Pick background colors that complement your brand palette.

  • Use on-brand textures or subtle patterns to make your slogan stand out.

  • Drop your catchphrase on product mockups or ads that fit your audience’s taste.

When you pair a tested slogan with visuals that pop, you’re unstoppable.

US withdraws from UNESCO again

US withdraws from UNESCO again

United Nations, July 23: The United States is again withdrawing from UNESCO, accusing it of advancing “divisive social and cultural causes” and focusing too much on sustainable development, State Department Spokesperson Tammy Bruce announced on Tuesday.

This is the second time the US is leaving Paris-based UNESCO under President Donald Trump. Washington had rejoined it two years ago under his predecessor Joe Biden.

Having served notice, Bruce said the withdrawal would go into effect at the end of next year.

UNESCO’s “globalist, ideological agenda for international development at odds with our America First foreign policy” and “continued involvement in UNESCO is not in the national interest of the United States”, she said.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres “deeply regrets this withdrawal, in light of the major role the US has played in UNESCO since its founding”, his spokesperson Stephane Dujarric said.

Major issues for the Trump administration are what it considers UNESCO’s anti-Israel policies, which it opposes along with Israel, and the membership of Palestine.

“UNESCO’s decision to admit the ‘State of Palestine’ as a member state is highly problematic, contrary to US policy, and contributed to the proliferation of anti-Israel rhetoric within the organisation”, Bruce said.

The US quitting UNESCO is in line with Trump’s intense criticism of international organisations and retrenching from them.

Immediately after he took over, he pulled the US out of the World Health Organisation criticising its handling of the Covid pandemic and accusing it of politicising its role.

Audrey Azoulay, the director-general of the UN’s cultural arm, said the US “decision contradicts the fundamental principles of multilateralism, and may affect first and foremost our many partners in the United States of America— communities seeking site inscription on the World Heritage List, Creative City status, and University Chairs”.

“However regrettable, this announcement was anticipated, and UNESCO has prepared for it”, she said.

The US contribution to UNESCO in 2023 was $28 million, 22 per cent of the organisation’s budget.

But Azoulay said, “Today, the organisation is better protected in financial terms, with the steady support of a large number of member states and private contributors” that have reduced the US contribution to 8 per cent.
