Srinagar, June 19: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Friday trapped two employees of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) while allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 and subsequently conducted a raid at the residence of an In-Charge Superintending Engineer (SE) of the corporation in Srinagar.
Quoting officials, the news agency KDC reported that a CBI team caught Sajad Hussain Bhat, In-Charge Dealing Assistant, and Javid Ahmad Ganei, a Consolidated Worker, both posted in the office of the Executive Engineer, Left River Works Division (LRWD) of the SMC, red-handed while accepting the bribe amount.
Following the trap, the CBI team conducted searches at the residence of Er Sajad Kawoosa in Baghat Barzulla area of Srinagar.
Er Kawoosa is presently serving as Executive Engineer and is also holding the charge of Superintending Engineer in the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
Notably, Er Kawoosa was felicitated by the district administration Srinagar earlier this year for rendering distinguished and meritorious services in public administration and service delivery.
The CBI is carrying out further investigation into the matter.
