Jammu, Aug 20: General Officer Commanding-in-Chief (GOC-in-C), Northern Command Lieutenant General Pratik Sharma has underscored the need for close synergy among all stakeholders to effectively address the challenges faced by the Veterans and to strengthen the overall welfare framework.
Lt Gen Sharma, while addressing “Synergy conference 3.0”- veterans conclave, also reaffirmed Indian Army’s unwavering commitment to the welfare and well-being of the veterans’ community.
GOC-in-C Northern Command emphasised that the sacrifices, dedication and years of service rendered by military personnel must be acknowledged not only through words but also through meaningful and institutionalised welfare measures.
Northern Command of the Indian Army organised this conclave at Udhampur the other day, in a hybrid mode, in a significant step towards strengthening welfare measures for veterans, Veer Naris and their dependents.
Secretary Ex-Servicemen Welfare (ESW), Ministry of Defence, Government of India Sukriti Likhi, too, through video conference attended the conference, conceptualized under the vision of the GOC-in-C, Northern Command.
The meeting, according to PRO Defence Jammu, Lt Col Suneel Bartwal, was attended by senior officers and representatives from various military formations and civil administration departments both at Centre and State.
“The meet addressed and focussed on three important pillars – Seva, Samman and Samriddhi (Service, Respect and Prosperity). The conference focussed on addressing procedural, institutional and administrative matters to streamline post-service support systems for the veteran community and also making them an integral part of nation building efforts,” Lt Col Bartwal said.
The conclave in a collaborative manner deliberated upon contemporary challenges affecting veterans, Veer Naris and their dependents. Key emphasis was laid on healthcare delivery, welfare schemes, upskilling, awareness, pension related matters, second career opportunities, institutional support and grievance redressal.
Secretary ESW, Ministry of Defence appreciated the initiative of Northern Command and exhorted all stakeholders to work in a collaborative manner to ensure timely support to the veterans and their dependents.
She also reiterated the support of the central government towards welfare and resettlement of veterans and their dependents in the Union Territories of J&K and Ladakh.
