Committee constituted to probe alleged patient canvassing at SDH Banihal

Banihal, June 28: The Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Banihal has constituted a committee to inquire into allegations of canvassing, solicitation and unauthorized influence upon patients within and around the premises of Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal.

The order was issued following a complaint alleging that some persons associated with private medical shops, diagnostic laboratories and other healthcare establishments were allegedly indulging in canvassing and influencing patients at the hospital premises.

As per the order, the matter was referred to the Block Medical Officer (BMO) Banihal for verification, who submitted a preliminary report indicating the need for a detailed fact-finding inquiry into the allegations.

The inquiry committee comprises Tehsildar Banihal as Chairman, Block Medical Officer Banihal, Naib Tehsildar (HQ) Banihal and Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Banihal as members.

The committee has been tasked to conduct a detailed inquiry, examine relevant evidence including CCTV footage, hospital records, visitor registers and statements of complainants, witnesses and concerned persons. It will also identify individuals, intermediaries or establishments, if involved in canvassing, solicitation, inducement or unauthorized influence upon patients and attendants.

The SDM order stated that any such activity, if found true, could compromise patient welfare, institutional discipline and the orderly functioning of the government healthcare institution, and may invite administrative and legal action under relevant provisions of law.

Pending completion of the inquiry, the BMO and SHO Banihal have been directed to maintain strict vigil within the hospital premises and ensure that no unauthorized person engages in such activities.

The committee has been directed to submit its report within seven days from the date of issuance of the order.
