Consulate assures all possible assistance to affected Umrah pilgrims; alternative flight arrangements being pursued

Srinagar, Oct 26: The Consulate General of India has assured all possible assistance to Indian Umrah pilgrims affected by ongoing flight disruptions, stating that efforts are underway to facilitate the early return of stranded passengers.

In a communication to JKNC MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan, Fahad Suri, representing the Consulate General, said the Consulate was fully aware of the difficulties being faced by Indian pilgrims and was extending all possible assistance to affected nationals.

He informed that 24×7 control rooms have been established in Jeddah and Makkah to address the concerns of pilgrims. The Consulate is also maintaining regular contact with affected pilgrims, tour operators and the concerned Saudi authorities.

According to the communication, teams from the Consulate, with the support of Indian community associations and volunteers, are facilitating essential medicines, food and other immediate requirements, particularly for vulnerable pilgrims.

The Consulate is also coordinating closely with the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah regarding pilgrims’ welfare and with local authorities on visa-related matters.

Regarding the return of affected passengers, Suri said the issue of alternative flight arrangements and additional flight capacity had been taken up with the concerned authorities in India and the airlines.

He added that some affected pilgrims had already returned through available scheduled flights, while efforts were continuing to facilitate the early return of the remaining passengers.

Assuring continued support, the Consulate stated that it remained available to extend necessary assistance in specific cases brought to its attention.
