The Inter-Collegiate Kabaddi (Men) Tournament 2026–27, organised by the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, concluded with an exciting final at the Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu, witnessing intense competition, impressive performances and a high level of sporting spirit.
In the much-awaited final match, GDC Kathua, as per a statement, emerged as the Champions after defeating MIET College by a margin of 15 points, with a final score of 52–37. GDC Kathua displayed an impressive combination of teamwork, tactical execution, defensive strength and attacking prowess to secure the Championship title.
In the third-place match, PG Department, University of Jammu secured the third position after registering a 13–10 victory over GDC Bhaderwah.
The tournament witnessed highly competitive encounters throughout, with participating teams demonstrating remarkable teamwork, coordination, determination, tactical awareness and discipline. The players displayed commendable commitment and sportsmanship, maintaining the true spirit of fair play and healthy competition.
Dr. Daud Iqbal Baba, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. He presented the Championship Trophy and medals to the winning teams and appreciated the commendable efforts of the participating players, team officials and organising officials for the successful conduct of the tournament. He emphasised the significant role of sports in fostering discipline, teamwork, physical fitness, leadership qualities and sportsmanship among students. The tournament was conducted under his overall supervision and guidance, with the objective of providing student-athletes a platform to showcase their talent and further strengthening the culture of competitive sports at the University.
Among those present on the occasion were Raj Kumar Bakshi, Ravish Vaid, Jai Bharat, Sh. Sandeep Sharma, Sukomal Ganguly, along with officials, coaches and players.
The matches were officiated by Anil Sharma, Ajay Gupta, Dheeraj Sharma, S. Harpreet Singh, Amandeep Singh, Prajwal Slathia, Ashfaq Hussain and Gagan Kumar, whose professional conduct and efforts contributed to the smooth and successful conduct of the championship.
