IGP Kashmir reviews security, counter-terror operations in Pulwama and Awantipora

Srinagar, Sep 6: Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kashmir Zone Sujit Kumar conducted extensive security and operational review visits to District Pulwama and Police District Awantipora today. Accompanied by Deputy Inspector General of Police, South Kashmir Range, Anantnag Javed Iqbal Mattoo, IGP Kashmir chaired high-level review meetings to assess the prevailing security apparatus, ongoing counter-terror operations, crime disposal, and the general law-and-order scenario across both jurisdictions.

During the respective meetings, the concerned Senior Superintendents of Police alongside Additional SPs, Sub-Divisional Police Officers and DySPs of the Special Operations Group briefed the visiting officer on operational readiness, local crime dynamics, and strategic deployments.

During the review IGP Kashmir evaluated the overall security matrix and passed directions for dedicated focus on kinetic and non-kinetic counter-terror operations. Officers were instructed to maintain seamless inter-agency coordination, scale up intelligence-led operations, and aggressively clamp down on anti-national elements to sustain regional peace and stability. IGP Kashmir emphasized on proactive & preventive policing.

Directives were issued to step up surveillance, safeguard vital installations, and ensure foolproof security around vulnerable areas and protected persons.

IGP Kashmir also reiterated the department’s zero-tolerance stance against narcotics and illicit networks, directing officers to intensify ongoing drives against drug abuse and ensure strict, lawful action against chronic offenders.

Emphasizing community engagement, the IGP called for compassionate, people-friendly policing alongside the prompt redressal of public grievances, reinforcing mutual trust between law enforcement and local citizens.

Concluding the interactions, the IGP lauded the steadfast commitment, alertness, and professionalism of officers and personnel on the ground, urging all ranks to remain disciplined, mission-oriented, and primed for immediate response to emerging security challenges.
