Mauritius President honours VIT vice-president Sekar Viswanathan

VIT Vice-President Dr. Sekar Viswanathan was conferred the prestigious ‘Crown Jewel of World Tamils’ (Ulaga Thamizhar Maamani) award in recognition of his contributions to higher education at the World Tamil Economic Conference held in Mauritius.

The 13th edition of the Global Tamils Economic Conference and Global Economic Summit was held in Mauritius from September 11 to 13, bringing together more than 200 participants, including heads of state, government ministers, economic experts and investors from over 20 countries.

The conference deliberated on international investments, business partnerships, artificial intelligence, financial services, higher education, healthcare, startups and global trade.

VIT Chancellor Dr G. Viswanathan, Tamil Nadu School Education Minister Rajmohan and V.R.S. Sampath, President of the Madras Development Society and the World Tamils Economic Foundation, were among the dignitaries who attended the event.

Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool presided over the award ceremony and presented the honours. Dr Sekar Viswanathan was among prominent Tamils from various fields across the world who received the ‘Crown Jewel of World Tamils’ award.
