Mehbooba takes up ‘harassment’ of Kashmiri mutton traders with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann

Srinagar, June 23: PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Tuesday said she had spoken to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann regarding reports of Kashmiri mutton dealers being stopped and allegedly harassed at Madhopur and the Shambhu border in the name of the Cattle Fair Act.

In a post on X, Mufti said she raised concerns over the difficulties reportedly being faced by traders from Kashmir while transporting livestock and conducting business in Punjab.

“Spoke with Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann ji about Kashmir mutton dealers reportedly being stopped and harassed by contractors in the name of the Cattle Fair Act at Madhopur, Punjab and the Shambhu border. He was kind enough to assure me of prompt action,” Mufti said.

The former chief minister thanked the Punjab chief minister for his intervention and said she hoped the issue would be resolved at the earliest.

The development comes amid concerns raised by sections of traders over alleged obstacles faced during the transportation and trade of livestock outside Jammu and Kashmir.
