MLA Sheikh Khursheed protests at PDD Handwara over power disconnections

Member Legislative Assembly (MLA) Langate, Sheikh Khursheed Wednesday staged a protest in the premises of Power Development Department (PDD) Division Handwara after electricity connections of several consumers were reportedly disconnected in Gonipora village of Handwara over pending electricity bills.

Addressing the media, MLA Sheikh Khursheed expressed concern over the disconnection of power supply to poor families and urged the PDD authorities to adopt a humane approach while recovering pending dues. “The economically weaker sections should not be subjected to hardships,” he added.

While referring to the BJP office functioning from the Fisheries Department premises in Handwara, Khursheed alleged that the office has electricity dues of around Rs 5 lakh pending with the PDD. “I am unable to comprehend why the PDD has failed to recover electricity dues from the BJP office being run from Fisheries hut Handwara. I demand equal enforcement of electricity regulations and no individual or organisation should be treated differently under the law,” he added. Later authorities disconnected electricity of BJP office Handwara over non-payment of electricity dues.
