Operation Trident busts narco-cartel, uncovers Rs 100-crore hawala transactions; 18 arrested: Amit Shah

Srinagar, Oct 25: Describing Operation Trident as a major blow against drug trafficking, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said government agencies had launched simultaneous crackdowns at 38 locations across Assam, Mizoram and Manipur on October 23, busting an international narco-cartel.

“Modi government deals another lethal blow against drugs with Operation Trident,” Shah said.

He said the operation has uncovered hawala transactions worth Rs 100 crore, led to the freezing of 1,424 bank accounts, the attachment of properties worth Rs 17.82 crore, the seizure of 500 detonators and Rs 12 lakh in cash, and the arrest of 18 people.

According to Shah, the network trafficked narcotics across the borders of India, Myanmar and Bangladesh through the Death Triangle Corridor.

He said the operation reflected India’s resolve to eradicate every drug network by December 31, 2029, adding that the fight against drug cartels would continue until they were completely dismantled.

Shah congratulated the anti-narcotics team, comprising central agencies and police forces from the three states, on the successful operation.
