PDP’s Para demands immediate rollback of revised power tariff, dubs it ‘anti-poor’

Srinagar, Aug 24: Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) legislator Waheed-ur-Rehman Para on Monday criticised the government over burdening people with more tariffs and taxes; and demanded immediate rollback of revised power tariff.

Terming the recent power tariff hike “anti-people” and “anti-poor”, PDP leader advised government to step out of its lavish corridors and face the harsh ground reality of Kashmir.

In a post on X, Para said: “J&K government needs to step out of its lavish corridors and face the harsh ground reality of Kashmir before burdening people with more tariffs and taxes. The 6.8% hike in electricity tariff is outright anti-people and anti-poor. It must be withdrawn immediately and unconditionally”.

He said: “At a time when jobs are vanishing, businesses are on the verge of collapse, economic distress & youth anxiety is at its peak, Kashmir cannot bear any more taxes. You cannot tax people when you have completely failed to empower, socially and financially. Instead of providing relief, you hike electricity tariff by 6.8%? This is not governance, this is open punishment of the poor”.
