New Delhi, Jun 16: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday called for stronger international partnerships founded on trust, transparency, and shared ownership, while addressing the Outreach Session on “Forging New Partnerships and Rebuilding International Solidarity” at the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Addressing world leaders, PM Modi said that in an increasingly interconnected world, challenges related to energy, food, health, cyber, and economic security are closely linked, making international cooperation essential for global progress and prosperity. PM Modi cautioned that trade and technology were increasingly being misused for narrow interests, creating a trust deficit in the international system.
Referring to lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, the Prime Minister urged nations to strengthen trust and transparency in global partnerships.
Highlighting India’s approach to international cooperation, PM Modi said the country has consistently followed the principle of “humanity first,” which guides its initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, Global Biofuel Alliance, Mission LiFE, and the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” campaign.
He noted that India’s commitment to inclusive cooperation has also been reflected in its role as a first responder during natural disasters across the world, including cyclones in Sri Lanka, earthquakes in Afghanistan, floods in Mozambique, and hurricanes in Jamaica.
Speaking about India’s development model, PM Modi said the mantra of “Sarv Jan Hitaye, Sarv Jan Sukhaye” (welfare and happiness for all) has helped advance financial inclusion, health security, digital identity, technology-driven empowerment, and women-led development.
The Prime Minister stressed that global partnerships should move beyond the traditional donor-recipient framework and instead be based on solidarity and equal ownership. He also identified the lack of respect for international law as a major obstacle to building international solidarity and called for prioritising dialogue and diplomacy to ensure peace and stability.
PM Modi’s remarks came during the G7 Outreach Session, which brings together G7 members and partner countries to discuss key global challenges and avenues for enhanced international cooperation.
