COVID-19 cases in J&K rises to 1,11,130 with 452 fresh infections

Jammu: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 452 fresh COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, taking the union territory’s tally to 1,11,130, while six more fatalities pushed the death toll to 1,708, officials said. Of the fresh cases, 258 are from the Jammu division and 194 from the Kashmir division, they said. Jammu district recorded the highest number of fresh cases at 127, followed by 81 in Srinagar, according to the officials. There are 4,951 active cases in the union territory, while 1,04,471 patients have recovered so far, the officials said. Of the six fresh deaths, three each were reported from Jammu and Kashmir regions.

Morning chill kept most Kashmiris indoors on Wednesday till a feeble sun started struggling its way through thin layer of winter clouds. Pakistan Rangers violates ceasefire along IB in J&K’s Kathua

Kathua: Pakistani Rangers opened fire at border outposts along the International Border (IB) in Hiranagar sector of Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district, drawing retaliation from the Border Security Force, officials said on Wednesday. The firing from across the border in Karol Krishna, Pansar and Gurnam border outposts started around 9.50 pm on Tuesday and the cross-border firing between the two sides continued till 4 am Wednesday, the officials said. There was no report of any damage on the Indian side.

Covid Update: 471 new COVID cases and 5 deaths in J&K

Jammu: J&K on Sunday recorded 471 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally to 1,09,854, while the death number has reached 1,685 with five more as of today, officials said. Of the fresh cases, 260 were detected from the Jammu division and 211 were detected from the Kashmir division, they said. The officials said Jammu district has recorded the highest of 122 cases, while Srinagar has recorded only 86. There are 5,087 active cases as of now in the UT of Jammu Kashmir, while 1,03,082 patients have recovered, they said. Five COVID-19 deaths were reported in the UT in the last 24 hours — three of them were from Jammu and two were from Kashmir region.

Weather to improve in Kashmir from Thursday, mercury to dip: MeT

SRINAGAR: The weather in Kashmir is likely to remain dry after 26th November, a Meteorological Department (MeT) official said on Monday. “The weather in the valley will improve from 26th November but the mercury will take a dip after 27th November,” said Deputy Director Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad. He said that the morning and night temperature will take a dip and experience cold wave conditions. Ahmad said as predicted earlier, the higher reaches are expected to receive light to moderate snowfall while plains will receive a low intensity rainfall between 23th and 25th of November.
