Srinagar, May 27: In a significant action aimed at combating the menace of drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested two drug peddlers in Pulwama and Kupwara, and recovered contraband substances from their possession.
A police spokesperson said that a police party from PS Rajpora during naka checking near Argecheck intercepted a suspicious person. A personal search led to the recovery of 60 grams charas, from his possession. He has been identified as Javaid Ahmad Mir, son of Mohd Akbar Mir, resident of Pakherpora. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In separate action in Kupwara, a police party of PS Kupwara at a checkpoint established at Main Tikker Kupwara intercepted a suspicious person. During search, a substantial amount of Heroine-like substance was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Danish Ahmad Shiekh, son of Mohd Yousf Shiekh, resident of Tikker Kupwara. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
Accordingly, cases under relevant sections of law have been registered at respective police stations and further investigation have been initiated, spokesperson added.
Meanwhile police in Sopore have booked three chronic narcotics offenders under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS). The trio had been persistently involved in drug peddling despite multiple FIRs and arrests, posing a serious threat to public health and safety.
According to police spokesperson, the three chronic narcotics offenders namely Bilal Ahmad Lone, son of Abdul Rashid Lone, resident of Lorihama Rafiabad; Jameel Ahmad Dar, son of Ghulam Mohammad Dar, resident of Saripara Rafiabad; and Mohammad Altaf Dar, son of Ghulam Qadir Dar, resident of Mumkakh Batpora Sopore, had developed a consistent pattern of narcotics trafficking and continued their activities despite repeated legal action. After detailed dossier preparation and confirmation by the competent authority, all three have been detained under the stringent provisions of the PIT NDPS Act to prevent further harm to the society.
The action as per spokesperson reflects J&K Police’s zero-tolerance policy toward drug trafficking and its firm resolve to break the supply chain of narcotics.
