Germany’s Freelance Visa, or Freiberufler visa, is open to individuals across a broad range of professions. Eligible applicants include independent scientists, artists, teachers, and those involved in educational work. Legal professionals such as lawyers, notaries, and patent agents also qualify. Others on the list include surveyors, engineers, architects, veterinarians, commercial chemists, accountants, tax consultants, consulting economists, sworn accountants, and tax agents. The visa is also available to healthcare-related professionals such as dentists, non-medical practitioners, and physiotherapists, as well as media professionals like journalists and photojournalists. Interpreters, translators, pilots, and similar occupations are also eligible.
To apply, one must hold a valid passport issued within the past 10 years, with at least two blank pages. You need to show proof of sufficient financial means to support yourself for a year—currently estimated at a minimum monthly income of around €1,280.06 (approximately ₹1,27,844, though this may vary based on your location and cost of living). Applicants must also provide evidence of freelance work and relevant qualifications, such as a university or higher education degree from a recognized institution.
