Women-led organic farming initiative earns national recognition

Pooja Gupta, founder of Himalayan Bio Organics Foods Limited and its flagship brand NIMBARK, has been honoured with The Economic Times Achievers of the North Award for her contribution to promoting women-led organic farming across the Himalayan region.

The award was presented by the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Gulab Chand Kataria, at a ceremony held in Chandigarh on June 20.

The recognition acknowledges Gupta’s efforts over the past eight years in transforming nearly 30,000 acres of conventional farmland into certified organic land and building a support network for more than 15,000 farmers. The initiative has particularly focused on empowering women, with over 10,000 women farmers participating in certified organic cultivation and gaining direct access to markets.

Speaking on the occasion, Gupta dedicated the award to women farmers and said the recognition would strengthen her commitment to promoting organic and chemical-free farming. She noted that J&K, along with other Himalayan states, possesses immense agricultural potential and deserves greater visibility in national and international markets.

Through NIMBARK, the Jammu-based enterprise provides farmers with support in soil health management, organic certification, training and market linkages across several states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.

The company aims to expand organic cultivation while further strengthening the role of women in modern agriculture.
