The tournament is being organised by the 53BN of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) which aims to encourage sportsmanship among local youth and strengthen community engagement.

The ‘Shaheed Ghulam Jeelani Khan, Assistant Commandant Memorial Cricket Tournament’ was inaugurated by the family members of the slain officer in the presence of senior officers of the 53 Battalion CRPF, local residents, sports enthusiasts and participating players.

The tournament is being organised under the CRPF’s Civic Action Programme which brought together eight teams from the local area, who will compete over the next three days.

CRPF officials said the event is intended to provide young players with a platform to showcase their sporting talent while promoting teamwork, discipline and healthy competition.

The tournament also seeks to inspire youth to pursue sports at higher levels and foster stronger bonds between people from different regions of the country.

In his address at the occasion, Commandant of 53 Battalion CRPF, Sanjeev Kumar Sharma, reaffirmed the force’s commitment to supporting local youth through sports and other community-orientated initiatives. He said such programmes help strengthen mutual trust and coordination between the public and security forces while creating constructive opportunities for young people.

The tournament has been organised as a tribute to the supreme sacrifice of Assistant Commandant Ghulam Jeelani Khan.

CRPF officials said similar programmes would continue to be organised under the Civic Action Programme to encourage youth participation and community outreach.
