Opener Abhishek Sharma and spinner Varun Chakravarthy have made significant strides in the ICC Men’s T20I Player Rankings following India’s impressive 4-1 victory over England in their five-match home series.
Abhishek’s remarkable 135 from 54 balls in the series’ final match at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai has propelled him 38 spots to second place, surpassing his teammate Tilak Verma, and trailing only Australia’s Travis Head.
Chakravarthy, on the other hand, has risen three positions to joint-second place, sharing the spot with England’s Adil Rashid. Chakravarthy claimed multiple wickets in the last two matches of the series, taking his total to 14 wickets, which has helped him improve his standing. Rashid, who had previously taken the top spot, has now dropped behind Akeal Hosein.
In addition, Harry Brook has moved up three places to 42nd, thanks to his 51-run performance in the fourth ODI in Pune. Other notable batters improving their positions after the series include Hardik Pandya (up five places to 51st), Rinku Singh (up five places to 55th), Shivam Dube (up 38 places to 58th), and Ben Duckett (up six places to 62nd).
On the bowling front, India’s leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi has advanced from 10th to 6th after taking four wickets in the last two games. England’s Saqib Mahmood, with his figures of 3/35 in the fourth match, has gained 28 spots to 57th. Mark Wood has risen nine places to 60th, while Brydon Carse has made a major leap of 62 places to 66th.
In Test rankings, Steve Smith has climbed three spots to 5th after his 141-run performance in Australia’s victory over Sri Lanka in the Galle Test, where Australia triumphed by an innings and 242 runs. Usman Khawaja, named Player of the Match for his 242 runs, has moved up six spots to 11th, while Josh Inglis, who marked his debut with a century, entered the rankings at 80th place.
Australia’s bowlers have also seen improvements. Nathan Lyon is now 6th, just six points behind his career-best rating, while Mitchell Starc has risen to 12th. Matthew Kuhnemann and Todd Murphy have also advanced to 54th and 66th positions, respectively.
