Banihal, Aug 09: The Shri Amarnath Yatra has been suspended from Jammu towards Srinagar/Baltal amid adverse weather conditions and restoration work on the pilgrimage tracks.
However, pilgrims who had already performed darshan at the holy cave are being allowed to return towards Jammu. According to the Joint Police Control Room, Baltal, a total of 588 pilgrims—including 435 men, 83 women, four children and 66 sadhus—were moving towards Jammu in 53 vehicles on Sunday morning.
The down convoy was moving through the Ramban-Banihal sector of NH-44 towards Jammu when reports last came in.
No fresh Yatra convoy was allowed to proceed from Jammu towards the base camps.
The suspension from both Baltal and Pahalgam routes has been ordered from August 9 due to recent rains, track damage and forecast of adverse weather.
