Sopore, Aug 09: Security forces and investigating agencies on Sunday launched a massive crackdown against a suspected network allegedly linked to the banned Jamaat-e-Islami (JeI) in Sopore and adjoining areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.
According to officials, search operations are being conducted at 26 locations in connection with a case registered under the provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) against the banned organisation.
The searches are being carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged activities, links and network associated with the proscribed outfit. Teams of security forces and investigating agencies have been deployed at multiple locations, where searches of residential and other premises are underway.
Officials said the operation is aimed at gathering further evidence and establishing the nature of the alleged network and its activities. The searches are part of a wider investigation into individuals and locations suspected to have links with the banned organisation.
Security arrangements have also been strengthened in the areas where the searches are being conducted to ensure the operations are carried out smoothly and to prevent any disruption to law and order.
