New Delhi, Nov 13: A loud blast-like sound caused by a bus tyre burst spread panic among locals in southwest Delhi’s Mahipalpur area on Thursday morning, officials said.

The incident caused alarm as it came in the backdrop of a high-intensity explosion in the heavily crowded Red Fort area on Monday evening, killing 13 people and injured several others.

The Dehi Fire Services said they received a call at 9.19 am informing about a blast-like loud sound heard near Raddison in Mahipalpur, following which they pressed three fire tenders to the spot.

Even after extensive checking, the officers found nothing at the spot.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southwest) Amit Goel said, “The caller was contacted. He said that while he was on the way to Gurugram, a loud noise was heard. We checked everything and nothing was found.”

“During local enquiry, a guard informed us that the rear tyre of a DTC bus going towards Dhaula Kuan had burst and the sound came from that,” the DCP said.

The situation is normal and there is nothing to worry, he added.

New Delhi, Nov 13: The death toll in the blast near Red Fort early this week rose to 13 after another injured person succumbed to his injuries at the LNJP Hospital here, an official said.

The deceased has been identified as Bilal, he said.

According to Delhi Police, information about Bilal’s death was received from the hospital early on Thursday morning.

The post-mortem will be conducted later in the day, officials said.

With Bilal’s death, the total number of fatalities in the high-intensity explosion on Monday evening has climbed to 13, while several others remain under treatment.

New Delhi, Nov 13: The DNA test of samples collected from the Red Fort blast site has confirmed that Dr Umar Nabi was driving the car that exploded there early this week, police sources said Thursday.

The DNA samples of Umar’s mother were collected on Tuesday and sent here for examination, the sources said, adding that they were analysed along with the remains gathered from the blast site.

“The DNA results confirm that it was indeed Umar who was driving the fateful vehicle,” said a source.

Umar was a key member of a “white collar” terror module busted earlier this week. He hails from Koil village in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pulwama.

Hours after police busted the terror module with links to proscribed Jaish-e-Mohammed and Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, and arrested eight people including three doctors, the high-intensity blast ripped through a slow-moving car near Delhi”s Red Fort area on Monday evening.

Around 3,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, potassium chlorate and sulphur were seized after police busted the terror module, which spanned across Jammu and Kashmir, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi, Nov 12: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday expressed profound grief over the loss of lives in the terrorist incident involving a car explosion near the Red Fort in Delhi on the evening of November 10.

The Cabinet observed a two-minute silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the blast, which has been described as a heinous act of terror aimed at disturbing peace and stability in the country.

In a resolution adopted during the meeting, the Cabinet said, “The country has witnessed a heinous terror incident, perpetrated by anti-national forces, through a car explosion near the Red Fort on the evening of 10 November 2025. The explosion resulted in multiple fatalities and caused injuries to several others.

“The Cabinet pays its solemn respects to the victims of this senseless act of violence and conveys its heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families.

“The Cabinet prays for the speedy recovery of all those injured, and appreciates the prompt efforts of the medical personnel and emergency responders, who have been providing care and support to the victims.”

Terming the attack a “dastardly and cowardly act,” the Cabinet reiterated India’s zero-tolerance policy towards terrorism in all its forms and manifestations.

It also took note of the expressions of solidarity and support received from several foreign governments following the attack.

“The Cabinet notes with appreciation the timely and coordinated response of the authorities, security agencies, and citizens who acted with courage and compassion in the face of adversity. Their dedication and sense of duty are deeply commendable,” the resolution said.

The Cabinet directed that the investigation be pursued with utmost urgency and professionalism, ensuring that the perpetrators, their collaborators, and sponsors are brought to justice without delay. Officials said the situation continues to be closely monitored at the highest levels of government.

Reaffirming its steadfast resolve to safeguard the lives and well-being of all Indians, the Cabinet underscored the government’s enduring commitment to national security and the safety of every citizen.

Security has been tightened across the national capital in the aftermath of the explosion, with multiple agencies engaged in a coordinated probe to trace those behind the attack.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and Delhi Police’s Special Cell are jointly leading the investigation.

Authorities said forensic teams are examining debris from the blast site, while CCTV footage from nearby areas is being analysed for possible leads.

The powerful explosion, which occurred near the historic Red Fort, triggered panic in the area on Sunday evening, leaving several people dead and many others injured.

Emergency teams and Police personnel rushed to the spot soon after the blast, cordoning off the area and evacuating the injured to nearby hospitals.

Condemnations have poured in from across the political spectrum and the international community, with leaders calling for unity against terrorism and violence.

Officials said the Cabinet’s resolution reflects the government’s determination to ensure that those responsible for the attack “face the full weight of the law.”
