Jammu, Sep 25: Jammu Railway Division is recording a steady growth in the freight loading due to persistent efforts of its Business Development Unit (BDU), solidifying connect with small and local industries of Jammu and Kashmir.
Officials stated that besides BDU efforts, increasing trust of the J&K industry sector and media cooperation were contributing in upscaling freight revenue and diversifying the commodity basket – from cement to the latest loading of biscuits.
Giving a brief account of the latest achievement, Public Relations Inspector (PRI), Jammu Railway Division, Raghvender Singh informed that after Uma Cement (bridge cement) at Udhampur and Ganpati Cement at Kathua, the reputed industrial unit of Kathua, Ratan Oil Mills, manufacturing Eurobik Biscuits, also reposed its faith in Indian Railways for transportation of its products.
According to him, an indent for one BCN wagon was registered by the company on September 25, 2026, the loading of which would be done on September 30, 2026 from Shaheed Captain Sunil Kumar Choudhary Kathua railway station to Anantnag goods shed.
“Biscuits (Edible Snacks) will be transported in it. This achievement is another important step for Jammu Division towards increasing freight revenue and diversifying the commodity basket,” he said.
Senior Divisional Commercial Manager (DCM), Jammu, Uchit Singhal said, “The goal of Jammu Railway Division is to connect local industries with rail transport and provide them with an affordable and reliable option. The joining of Ratan Oil Mills is proof that the trading community is now giving priority to railways and after Uma and Ganpati Cement, the addition of a new commodity like biscuits is making our freight basket more diverse.”
He said that the Railway Division was committed to establishing new dimensions in the field of freight loading in the future as well, in collaboration with the business community.
“Due to intensive marketing by the BDU team of the Jammu Railway Division in the region, continuous contact with traders and industrialists and better coordination with registered aggregators, more than 22 foodgrain wagons have been successfully loaded in the last 10 days, which also includes foodgrain parcel loading from Anantnag to Kathua and Chhan Arorian. This is making it possible to deliver local products to the Kashmir valley through a cheaper, safer and faster mode and reducing dependence on road transport,” Singhal said.
