Sopore, Sep 3: Panic gripped devotees and visitors at the historic Khankah Moula Shrine in Sopore town of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district after a four feet long snake was suddenly spotted roaming within the premises of the shrine on Thursday.
The sighting caused alarm among people present at the shrine, with visitors maintaining a safe distance after noticing the reptile moving around the premises. The incident briefly created a tense situation as people feared that the snake could pose a threat to devotees, particularly children and elderly visitors.
On being informed about the presence of the snake, the Wildlife Department promptly responded and reached the shrine premises. The trained personnel carefully located and rescued the snake without causing it any harm.
After the successful rescue, the snake was safely taken away from the populated area and released into a suitable forest habitat, ensuring the safety of both the reptile and the public.
The timely intervention by the Wildlife Department was appreciated by locals and devotees, who said that the prompt response helped prevent any untoward incident.
The incident also highlights the importance of immediately informing wildlife authorities whenever snakes or other wild animals are spotted in residential or public areas.
