Sopore, Sep 03: In a significant action against properties allegedly linked to the proscribed Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu & Kashmir (JeI), Sopore Police has attached two double-storied buildings, six shops and 2 kanals of land at Dooru area of Sopore after completion of the prescribed legal process under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), 1967, officials said.
According to police, the action was taken during the investigation of FIR No. 42/2025, registered at Police Station Sopore under Sections 10 and 13 of the UA(P) Act. During the course of investigation, police examined relevant official documents, revenue records and other material and conducted verification through the concerned authorities to establish the alleged linkage of the properties with the proscribed organisation.
Police said that the properties in question comprise the premises of Islamia Model School, Dooru, which has reportedly remained closed since 2022. The property consists of two double-storied buildings, six shops and around two kanals of land.
Based on a detailed dossier prepared and submitted by Sopore Police, the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, through an order dated August 12, 2026, notified the said premises under Section 8(1) of the UA(P) Act, 1967.
Subsequently, following a request from Sopore Police, the District Magistrate, Baramulla, issued the requisite orders under Sections 8(3) and 8(4) of the UA(P) Act for further legal action against the notified properties.
In pursuance of these orders, a police team from Sopore, accompanied by the concerned Executive Magistrate, carried out the attachment proceedings on the ground in accordance with the applicable legal procedure.
The police said the action forms part of its continued efforts to identify, investigate and legally proceed against properties and assets allegedly associated with proscribed organisations and their networks.
Authorities maintained that such proceedings are aimed at preventing properties linked with banned organisations from being utilised for activities prohibited under law.
Sopore Police reiterated its commitment to taking firm but lawful action against proscribed organisations and networks associated with unlawful activities, while ensuring that all such proceedings are carried out in accordance with the established legal framework.
