Social media handler detained for spreading false narrative regarding Bandipora encounter: Police

Srinagar, Oct 25: In a major breakthrough against Pakistan-backed terror propaganda and recruitment networks operating through social media, Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK) today produced a charge sheet before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge designated under NIA Act, Srinagar in Case FIR No. 07/2023 U/S 153-A, 505, 506 IPC, 13, 18, 18-B, 39 UAPA of Police Station CIK Srinagar against terrorist associate Aadil Ahmad Khan son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan (@Gull Khan), resident of Drien Qazigund, Anantnag.

According to the statement issued by the agency, the case pertains to a terror recruitment module being clandestinely operated through social media platforms, with the objective of radicalizing and recruiting impressionable youth of Jammu and Kashmir into the ranks of proscribed terrorist organizations, particularly those sponsored and controlled from across the border in Pakistan.

Divulging details of the case, the statement reads that the investigation was initiated on the basis of credible information that unscrupulous individuals and entities based in Pakistan, in connivance with terrorist handlers of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and other banned outfits, were using social media to lure Kashmiri youth and instigate them to wage war against the sovereignty and integrity of India.

During the investigation, three accused persons were earlier found involved and charge sheeted before the Hon’ble Court, identified as Waseem Ahmad Sheikh, S/o Gh. Mohammad Sheikh R/o Kandoora Budgam; Junaid Ahmad Mir, S/o Late Ab. Jabbar Mir, R/o Tikkipora Lolab; and Shabir Ahmad Gojri, S/o Ab. Salam, R/o Darbagh Harwan Srinagar

The statement also reads that further investigation uncovered the active role of accused Aadil Ahmad Khan, who had been operating a dedicated online recruitment network through Facebook and Twitter, disseminating secessionist, anti-national, and pro-terror content. His online activities were aimed at glorifying terrorism, promoting violent extremism, and motivating youth to join proscribed terrorist organizations.

The investigation established that Aadil Ahmad Khan was actively aiding and abetting terrorist propaganda by sharing and amplifying digital content aligned with the agenda of Pakistan-based terror groups and their offshoots/front organizations. His online radicalization efforts were coupled with ground-level facilitation of terror recruitment.

The case is registered and being investigated by CIK with a focus on identifying and dismantling the wider online terror ecosystem, including handlers, sympathizers, and digital facilitators operating from within and outside the Union Territory, the statement reads.

CIK officials stated that more arrests and disclosures are expected as the investigation progresses.

This action underscores the commitment of Counter Intelligence Kashmir and J&K Police to neutralize both physical and digital terror networks, and to safeguard the youth of the Valley from being exploited by Pakistan-sponsored propaganda machinery, statement added.

Indore, Oct 25: Two Australian women cricketers, taking part in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup, were allegedly stalked, and one of them was molested by a motorcycle-borne man in Madhya Pradesh’s Indore, police said on Saturday.

The police on Friday arrested the man involved in the incident that occurred on the Khajrana Road area on Thursday morning, an official said.

Sub-Inspector Nidhi Raghuvanshi said that the two cricketers had stepped out of their hotel and were walking towards a café when a man on a motorcycle started following them.

He allegedly touched one of them inappropriately and rode off, she said.

LIC rejects Washington Post report on $3.9 billion Adani Investment Plan, calls allegations “false and baseless”

LIC rejects Washington Post report on $3.9 billion Adani Investment Plan, calls allegations “false and baseless”

New Delhi, Oct 25: State-run Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) has firmly rejected a report by The Washington Post that claimed Indian officials had drafted a plan to channel nearly $3.9 billion (around ₹32,000 crore) of LIC funds into companies owned by the Adani Group as reported by Business Today.

Calling the claims “false, baseless and far from truth,” LIC said it had never prepared or received any such proposal from the government. The insurer clarified that all its investment decisions are taken independently, based on board-approved policies and detailed due diligence. It added that neither the Department of Financial Services (DFS) nor any other government body has any role in its investment choices. LIC said the report appeared to be an attempt to “prejudice” its decision-making process and “tarnish” the reputation of India’s financial institutions. It reiterated that all investments are made according to laws, internal rules, and regulatory guidelines always keeping policyholders’ interests first.

What The Washington Post Report Claimed

In its investigation by Pranshu Verma and Ravi Nair, The Washington Post alleged that officials from the Finance Ministry, DFS, NITI Aayog, and LIC had drafted and approved a proposal in May 2025 to invest about $3.9 billion from LIC into Adani Group companies.

The report said the plan was meant to support Gautam Adani’s businesses, which were struggling after U.S. authorities charged him with bribery and fraud in 2024. Citing government documents and interviews with officials and bankers, the Post claimed that Indian authorities wanted to “signal confidence” in Adani’s empire and attract other investors amid international scrutiny.

According to the report, the proposal involved investing $3.4 billion in Adani Ports and Adani Green Energy through bonds and another $507 million to increase LIC’s equity stakes in Ambuja Cements and Adani Green Energy. It said the plan was framed as part of India’s “strategic objectives” to back key infrastructure companies.

The paper also reported that in May 2025, Adani Ports raised $585 million through bonds, fully financed by LIC — a move critics called a misuse of public funds. It quoted financial analyst Hemindra Hazari, who described the alleged plan as an example of “crony capitalism.”
LIC’s Response

LIC dismissed the allegations as “malicious and misleading,” saying its existing investments in Adani Group were made long before the time period mentioned in the report. The insurer said all its investment decisions go through a transparent, policy-based process with strict oversight and risk management. “No such document or roadmap for infusing funds into Adani Group companies has ever been prepared by LIC,” the insurer said. “Any suggestion that our investments are politically directed is completely untrue.”

Both LIC and the Adani Group have denied The Washington Post’s claims. However, the report has reignited debate over government influence and corporate governance in India’s biggest financial institutions. While the U.S.-based newspaper stands by its story, LIC’s firm rebuttal indicates the controversy is unlikely to fade soon and some opposition political parties are likely to jump into the debate.

Post 2019, development happened only on paper: Jal Shakti minister

0
Rana voices concern over Ladakh protests

Bandipora, Oct 25: Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Jal Shakti, Forest, Ecology and Environment, and Tribal Affairs, Javid Ahmed Rana, on Saturday said that all talk of development in the Union Territory “exists only on paper,” asserting that no funds have been withheld for Jal Shakti schemes, but there is “simply no money available.”

“People were deceived without being asked. The state was broken into pieces and made into a Union Territory, something unprecedented in the world’s history,” Rana said while addressing a public gathering in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district, accompanied by MLA Gurez, Nazir Gurezi, Congresd MLA from Bandipora Nizamuddin Bhat and Sonawari constituency MLA, Hilal Akbar Lone.

He said that despite tall claims made since Jammu and Kashmir’s reorganisation, progress on the ground remains negligible.

“If there has been any development in Kashmir in the past five or six years, it is only on paper,” he said, adding that the Jal Shakti Department, which handles water supply schemes, is struggling due to fund shortages.

During their speeches, Gurezi and Lone, requested the funds for contractors and stalled Jal Shakti, which in undergoing probe, be released for ease of public, especially in tribal areas.

“It is said that we have stopped payments, but the truth is, we don’t have money at all,” the minister said, clarifying that funds under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) come from the Government of India and delays have affected project completion.

Rana, however, commended the department’s officials and contractors for keeping work going despite the crisis.

“I congratulate the Jal Shakti Department and the contractors who have shown immense courage and dedication to keep the system running without payments,” he said.

“When I took over, the contractor liability was ₹400 crore. Today, it stands at ₹1,100 crore,” Rana said, adding that around 3,200 schemes are operational and 1,700 have been completed under the mission across Jammu and Kashmir despite financial hurdles.

The minister said he recently met the Union Minister in Delhi and sought immediate release of funds to clear pending dues and complete the remaining 10–15 per cent of unfinished works.

“Wherever certification under Har Ghar Jal is received, we will ensure all pending payments are cleared,” Rana said, adding that he has also requested the Chief Secretary to provide the UT’s share to help complete the remaining schemes.

Russian strikes on Ukraine kill at least 3 people and wound 17

Russian attacks on Ukraine kill 9, injure over dozen

\Kyiv, Oct 25: Russian missile and drone attacks on Ukraine overnight into Saturday killed at least three people and wounded 17 others, local officials said.

In the capital, Kyiv, one person was killed and ten wounded in a ballistic missile attack in the early hours of Saturday, Timur Tkachenko, head of Kyiv’s city military administration, said. Three of the wounded were hospitalized, according to Ukraine’s State Emergency Service.

A fire broke out in a non-residential building in one location, while debris from intercepted missiles fell in an open area at another site, damaging windows in nearby buildings, the emergency service wrote on Telegram.

“Explosions in the capital. The city is under ballistic attack,” Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram during the onslaught.

In the Dnipropetrovsk region, two people were killed and seven wounded, acting regional Gov Vladyslav Haivanenko said, adding that apartment buildings, private homes, an outbuilding, a shop and at least one vehicle were damaged in the strikes.

Ukraine’s Air Force said Russia launched nine missiles and 62 drones, of which air defences intercepted four missiles and 50 drones.

In Russia, the country’s defence ministry said its air defences shot down 121 Ukrainian drones over Russia overnight.

The attacks came after Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy urged the United States on Friday to expand sanctions on Russian oil from two companies to the whole sector, and appealed for long-range missiles to hit back at Russia.

Zelenskyy was in London for talks with two dozen European leaders who have pledged military help to shield his country from future Russian aggression if a ceasefire stops the more than three-year war.

The meeting hosted by British Prime Minister Keir Starmer aimed to step up pressure on Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding momentum to recent measures that have included a new round of sanctions from the United States and European countries on Russia’s vital oil and gas export earnings.

The talks also addressed ways of helping protect Ukraine’s power grid from Russia’s almost daily drone and missile attacks as winter approaches, enhancing Ukrainian air defences, and supplying Kyiv with longer-range missiles that can strike deep inside Russia.

Zelenskyy has urged the US to send Tomahawk missiles, an idea US President Donald Trump has flirted with.
