Devyani Rana vows to continue agenda of development in Nagrota

Jammu, Oct 25: Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the upcoming by-elections to the Nagrota Assembly seat, Devyani Rana, while addressing a series of meetings at Kathar Upper, Kathar Lower, Krishanpur and Bhatyari on Saturday, reiterated her firm resolve to carry forward the vision of a progressive and prosperous Nagrota, saying that the agenda of development and economic growth will not be allowed to get derailed under any circumstances.

Emphasising the BJP’s core philosophy, Rana, as per a statement, reiterated that the party stands for equitable opportunity for all and believes in inclusive governance that uplifts all sections of the society and provides every citizen a fair chance to succeed. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has witnessed a people-centric model of development where every individual, regardless of background, is economically and socially empowered.

Recalling her late father Devender Singh Rana’s commitment to the constituency, Devyani Rana said, “My father had a dream to see Nagrota prosper and thrive, and I am determined to realise that dream with people’s support,” she added.

In a strong message to those trying to mislead the people, Rana cautioned disruptive forces not to test the unity and resolve of the people of Nagrota, who, she said, remain steadfast in their approach towards the betterment of the constituency.

The people of Nagrota are wise, resilient, and deeply committed to their development, and no divisive agenda can weaken their resolve or derail their progress,” she said.

Calling upon voters to extend their full support to the BJP for the larger good of the constituency, Devyani Rana said, “Together, we will build a Viksit Nagrota that will contribute proudly to the vision of a Viksit Jammu and Kashmir and Viksit Bharat.”

Paras Health Srinagar performs advanced EUS-guided procedure

Srinagar, Oct 25: Paras Hospital Srinagar has achieved a medical milestone by successfully performing an Endoscopic Ultrasound (EUS)-guided therapeutic procedure, marking a breakthrough in treating complex gastrointestinal conditions in Kashmir, a statement issued by the hospital said.

The procedure involved a 60-year-old male patient with chronic liver disease, who had suffered life-threatening bleeding from oesophageal and fundal varices. Despite previous variceal treatments elsewhere, he presented at Paras Hospital with severe bleeding from large fundal varices. Considering the complexity, the gastroenterology team planned an EUS-guided coil and glue therapy, delivering embolization coils and glue directly into the bleeding varices under real-time ultrasound guidance.

The procedure was performed by Dr Aadil Ashraf, Senior Consultant, Gastroenterology and GI Endoscopy, under minimal sedation. The bleeding was successfully controlled, and the patient recovered quickly, being discharged the next day. “This is the first time such an advanced intervention has been carried out in Kashmir,” Dr. Ashraf said. “Patients who earlier had to travel to metropolitan cities can now access world-class treatments locally, easing financial and emotional burdens.”

Paras Hospital has also pioneered other complex EUS procedures in the region, including cystogastrostomy, choledochoduodenostomy, celiac plexus blockade, and gastrojejunostomy. The hospital routinely performs diagnostic EUS for pancreato-biliary disorders and EUS-guided biopsies, enabling early detection and precise treatment planning.

With these advancements, Paras Hospital is setting new benchmarks in gastroenterology care, providing cutting-edge treatments locally and improving outcomes for patients who previously had to seek care outside Kashmir.

Govt initiates process to appoint new CJI; Justice Surya Kant next in line

New Delhi, Oct 25: Artificial Intelligence (AI) can aid judges, lawyers and citizens, but it cannot replace the human element essential to delivering justice, Supreme Court Justice Surya Kant said as reported by Bar and Bench.

Speaking at the Bar Association of Sri Lanka’s annual law conference, he stressed that while technology can guide legal work, the human mind and conscience must remain the final arbiter. Justice Kant described technology as a “force multiplier” transforming the legal system through e-filing, online hearings and AI-assisted tools, but warned against over-reliance on them. He cautioned that AI is not infallible and can produce errors or biased results, underscoring the need for human oversight. Justice Kant said the legal fraternity must balance innovation with ethical responsibility and inclusivity, ensuring that technology enhances, not replaces, justice.

AI integration redefining diagnostics and patient care in India: Dr Jitendra Singh

New Delhi, Oct 25: The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine is redefining diagnostics and patient care in India, said Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Dr. Jitendra Singh on Saturday.

Addressing the 54th Foundation Day and College Convocation of the University College of Medical Sciences (UCMS), University of Delhi, Singh highlighted the rapidly changing paradigms of medical education in India as well as those of health care.

The Minister noted that the integration of AI in medicine, which he himself has experimented with through tele-mobile clinics, is set to redefine diagnostics and patient care.

“AI can communicate in the patient’s own language and even provide comfort through human-like interaction,” Singh said, calling it a hybrid model that combines empathy with innovation.

The Minister noted that India has emerged as a global healthcare leader with an indigenous DNA vaccine for Covid-19 and gene therapy, and also emphasised the growing global credibility of India’s life sciences sector.

He also mentioned the paradigm shift in medical education in the past decade.

“Ten years ago, there were only about 45,000 undergraduate medical seats; today, the number is close to 1.5 lakh,” he said.

Further, Singh credited initiatives such as Ayushman Bharat and Jan Aushadhi Kendras for transforming healthcare delivery to “accessible, affordable, and available”.

Noting that “the age of working in silos is over,” Singh urged academic institutions to integrate with industry and government laboratories.

The Minister also urged doctors to deal with a “bi-phasic disease spectrum” — the coexistence of communicable and non-communicable diseases — alongside an ageing population and rapid technological changes.

Singh also conferred degrees upon undergraduate and postgraduate students and urged the new generation of doctors to embrace innovation while staying rooted in compassion.

“Those receiving their degrees today will be at the prime of their careers when India celebrates 100 years of independence in 2047,” he said.

“Destiny has given you this opportunity to be the architects of a healthier, more self-reliant India.”
