Poonch, May 7: The border town of Poonch, situated at the foothills and banks of the Poonch rivulet, came under intense artillery shelling on Wednesday. Pakistan-directed cannons targeted the town, bringing normal life to a grinding halt as people scrambled for safety.

Residents recounted the terrifying scenes, stating that the shelling began around 5:30 am and lasted over six hours.

The Pakistani Army used long-range high explosive shells to target civilians, exposing thousands to death and leaving the entire town deserted and chaotic.

Many people were seen rushing to hospitals with bleeding loved ones.

The shelling stopped around 1 pm, leaving an uneasy calm in its wake.

Vishal Kumar of Poonch town said, ìMigration of people has started now. The administration has established many lodgement centres, but the majority of the people have left the town voluntarily and moved to the houses of their relatives.î The Poonch town is almost deserted, with most people fleeing in fear for their lives.

The incident has left a trail of destruction and trauma, with residents hoping for an end to the violence that has disrupted their lives.
